seaninsa
My dad bought proof sets not sure why. He passed a few months ago. I have found it hard to sell these sets. Any suggestions where I might be able to sell these?
Rummy13
Welcome to the forum, Proof sets are something I do collect and have read a lot about. For the most part you can buy them cheep from 1965 - 2011. So selling them don't expect a lot per set. Coin dealers offer less the $19 a set. {laces offer the 1965 - 2008 set for $300. you can try your local coin shop but might do better if you had a good flee market or a large yard sale, Sets 1964 and below have 90% silver coins and go up as the years go back. Mid 1950 set at worth a few 100 each. The 2012 set cost way more too. Hope that helps you.
Crawtomatic
Could you provide a rough estimate of what you have @seaninsa? If we knew what you had we'd be able to offer multiple options with pros & cons to each.
Coinbuf
At one time many if not perhaps most US collectors bought and collected proof sets, however in the last ten years or so some of those collectors have left the hobby and or lost interest in collecting these sets. Also newer collectors haven't shown much desire to collect proof sets so the prices for sets minted after 1964 have been trending down, to the point that some dealers simply wont even buy them as they have no way to resell them for a profit. Your best option is to do some research the dates you have and figure out a price for each then list them here on the bay, sell, trade board and see if you get any takers, its free to try. Make sure you post good pics and highlight any sets where the coins have toned as those may sell for more/quicker. If that doesn't work then ebay is your next best option; and if you have any pre 1964 those will have a better chance of selling as the coins are made of silver so there is some value in them. seaninsa
seaninsa
Proof sets seem to have been a joke. These sets are mostly from the 90s and early 2000s it seems.
