I finally found the right lighting. The coin is matte with golden and lavender highlights along with elliptical die polishing lines around the hair and under the chin, and above the bun.

This is the same coin pictured below. It is not plated. There is a prominent elliptical line two spikes to the left of the E in liberty, as well as a small on to the right of the L looking like a question mark. A large one just to the left of the B encompassing the spike.

The language suggests a coin which looks as if it had been struck out of worn gold.

Nice looking 1921. I'm pretty sure this is not the Matte proof you are thinking it is. Only 8 were minted so your chances of finding one in the wild are incredibly remote.

I have handled Matte Proof Peace dollars and the coin doesn’t look the least bit like one.

I agree with Mark - not a sandblast proof. Detail is about average. Certainly not struck on a medal press.
