182? Capped Bust Dime

3 posts in this topic

A few months ago, I bought this dateless capped bust dime for a few dollars. It is variety 1 (wide border), and I can see the a 2 on it, which limits the dates from 1820 to 1828. I cannot read the last number, no matter what I do. I don't want it to be an 1822 dime without my knowing, but I don't want to clean the coin either. I have two questions:

1. Will a certification company be able to reveal the date?

2. Are there any methods of finding the date without cleaning the coin?

This is the best picture of the date that I could get.5ehoVLSQ.thumb.jpeg.cb46b430cb008945554c54069911faee.jpeg

It would help if you took photos of both sides and out of the holder.  If there is enough detail there it could be possible to identify the date by identifying the die marriage.  But even if we can determine the date and die variety it is doubtfull a TPG would holder it.
