Hi TON,

Actually, I have seen cents from both the US and Canada with that kind of black coloration.  It's environmental damage from contact with something that the copper in your coin didn't like.  Copper can be a very touchy metal because it's so reactive....you should see the condition of some of the ancient copper coins I've seen!
