Display name vs public name

I am new here. What is the difference? I changed my public name to what I want my user name to be. How do I change everything?

How do I change my display name so that it matches my public name?

Username and public name are the same thing. Are you seeing that it is different somewhere? If you see a different name somewhere please let me know what that name is. I wonder if you unknowingly have two accounts.
