PGM 1889 Morgan Dollar

2 posts in this topic

My uncle gave us some Morgan dollars when we were just kids in the 1960's - and we promptly lost them. xD Now they have been re-discovered in an envelope wrapped in tissue in a long forgotten desk drawer and this is one of them.

That little white speck next to the eagles wing is on the scanner - not the coin.

Opinions greatly appreciated!

I think that that the coin graded AU-50 or EF-45 when it was given to you. Fifty years in the something like Kleenex, which has sulfur in it, as dulled the surfaces. If they are all like this they are worth whatever common date circulated silver dollars are worth. I think that dipping such a piece would only make it worse. And since you are not looking at Mint State coins, this would not be beneficial in any case. If you find any better dates, that carry a premium in the circulated grades, you might consult with our hosts, if the cataloge value is at least several hundred dollars.
