Indian head cent error? Real?

3 posts in this topic

Good day!

I've started collecting since my grandfather passed away and left the family with a stash of various coins and bills.  I have two very decent 1896 Indian head cents of the six total...  One has an error that I've not been able to find anywhere else on the internet...  I'm curious if it is a real error...  if the pictures will post, you can clearly see the last "A" is missing, but a faint image of what should be there is visible...

Thanks!

It appears that the die cavity for that letter was partially filled with grease or other debris. This is fairly common and does not constitute a mint error for which anyone would pay a premium.
