" Altered Surface " what should I know...

2 posts in this topic

This is my first post & would appreciate whatever individuals can tell me about an " Altered Surface " grade.  I just found out that the 1807 Bust Right $5.00 gold coin I submitted received that grade.  The reading that I have done on the subject is vague & I was just wondering what others have experienced with coins graded as such.  I assume it would result in the coin being valued less.  Thanks

Yes it will result in a lower value.  How much less would depend on how the surfaces were altered, and what the sharpness grade on the coin was.  A higher grade coin will probably result in a greater decline percentage wise.
