1965 Dime (mint strike error?)

8 posts in this topic

Sometimes when a die has been used for a bit longer than it should have, the wear from striking all those coins can distort the elements. This is what you have here. It is not uncommon, and garners no premium.

I've run across a dime every once in a while with a little wear on the edges. Seems to be common with them as they are soo small.

It's even been suspected that the 1965 dies were still churning out coins well into 1966.

All of the coins struck during the first seven months of 1966 were dated either 1964 or 1965. Coinage dated 1966 commenced August 1 of that year.

Check your mintages.  I show 2.28 BILLION 1964 (P & D) silver dimes struck.

I have no idea where I got my mintage figures from, but yes, it is not correct.
