Anyone going to the West Suburban Coin Show in Countryside, Il this weekend?

I checked out that show last month and it appeared to be the same old tired show with mostly the same local dealers I remembered (from attending this show once years ago) offering their stale, overpriced inventory.

I'm in Chicago's northwest suburbs and I agree. The show will attract the same dealers who show up for the monthly NOISE coin shows and about 25 additional dealers from surrounding regions. As always, prices are unrealistic so buying is an afterthought.

The show does host an auction however that's made up of basically the best of the best of coins coming into the Fox Valley Coin shop throughout the preceding six months, along with consignments. While this auction has steep buyers premiums an astute buyer can fill the necessary holes with quality coins otherwise never seen at a show like this.

The internet component with the sale prevents many bargains from reaching the floor on slabbed coins but high grade raw coins can be obtained if you trust your grading skills.

This was a two day Christmas show instead of the regular one day. Saturday morning, not all of the dealers where there at the opening. It snowed later in the day and on Sunday. I found a couple of decent offerings, which I did not take. Nice facility. Had a nice chat with a couple of dealers.
