Question about conserving a zinc coin that has been lacquered

3 posts in this topic

Hello,

I have a question for the experts at NCS. I have my eye on a very rare German coin that is made of zinc. The only problem is that the coin has been coated in lacquer. This seems to be a problem that comes up with zinc German coins fairly regularly. I'm wondering if NCS can save such a coin.

Thanks!!

Hello Mohawk,

We are able to remove lacquer from coins however when coins are submitted for conservation they are first evaluated. This is to determine if we are able to conserve your particular coin. We would certainly need to see the coin in person to make this determination.

Hi Danielle,

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't purchased the coin and I won't now. I don't want to buy it, have it evaluated and unable to be saved. Thanks so much for letting me know this as this coin is very expensive!!

Best Regards

~Tom
