Designations for Coins Grading Below MS/PF60

2 posts in this topic

Recently I saw a Morgan dollar graded AU58PL. I was under the impression that in order to receive a designation the coin had to grade MS/PF60 or higher.

What designations will NGC apply to coins grading below MS/PF60? (PL, DPL, CAM, UCAM, FH, FBL, FSB, RD, RB, BN....)?

Greg,

NGC utilizes the designations into the circulated categories and this is why you will find Morgan Dollars designated PL in the AU grade. Likewise, you will encounter other designated coins into circulated territory, including FB, FS, FBL, FH, PL, DPL, CAM, UCAM, RD, RB, BN The only designation you will not find is the star. Star coins minimum grade level is MS-63.
