1938 MERCURY DIME NT/AT?

15 posts in this topic

MS65 NT. Because the toning does have some dark spots, it is most likely natural. Another good sign is that the toning is mostly on the reverse, whereas many times when it is artificial, the toning is brilliant on both the obverse and reverse. It is defineately a nice coin. Personally, I think it is gorgeous!

looks good from here as well. jmo :)

I wouldn't say it looks good, but it does look NT.

What's wrong with it? Just because it isn't a full rainbow spectrum and doesn't ring around the coin like a halo doesn't mean it isn't attractive. I have seen lots of Mercs with this sort of solid toning, and it usually looks much better in hand than in photos. JMO.

The toning looks NT to me, but some collectors don't like coins that are bright on one side and dark on the other. The grade will fall in the MS-65 to 66 range IMO.
