Pittman was a chemical engineer and was an executive at Kodak.

I think Mickley was a musician and piano salesman.

Clapp was a professor at Lake Forest College.

(let's see if my Google-Fu is any good! :) )

John J Pittman : Chemical engineer for Kodak

Joseph Mickley: Musical repair man and maker of piano-fortes

John H. Clapp: I couldn't find much of anything on this one, only that his collection was sold intact to Eliasburg and that he lived in Washington DC. He was also the son of Numismatist John M. Clapp who was in the oil industry.
