Coin grading seminar

5 posts in this topic

Hi,

I wonder if such a thing exist, where you can actually study, and explore "in hand" examples, to learn the fine details of grading standards by ngc and such.

also problematic coins, cleaned, dipped, etc.

Cheers

You may want to check out the ANA's program at their website www.money.org. They offer a summer seminar series two weeks in Colorado Springs and at the conventions. There is a coin grading class being taught at the World's Fair of Money this summer in Baltimore.

ANA publishes the "standards" that coins are graded. The TPGs adopts its own "style" based on those standards. Both NGC and PCGS has published books on grading standards that largely echo the ANA standards. You may want to check out those books.

I didnt hear about any seminar in the long beach show, but pcgs had a show room set up with "grading tables" so you can see the same coin in samples from say VF to 65 or something...

neat!
