  1. Don't worry. You'll get there. That's the same way that I started out. Thank You, my friend,
  2. I've wanted a Seated Dollar for years. A friend of mine picked up an early-date AU example, which kind of lit a fire within me again. Shortly thereafter; I started looking at them and I found my first---an 1873. That kind of got the ball rolling, as I have always appreciated the history, design, scarcity and large size of these earlier dollars. To answer your question---YES, had been looking for an 1860-O for a while after picking up the 1873. I like that it's pre-Civil War and from New Orleans. The only other coins minted in NOLA for this series are the 1846-O, 1850-O and 1859-O, so there's not a whole lot of them. If I see any more nice Seated Dollars; I'll probably keep buying them BUT, I am PICKY, so I take my time and search for the 'RIGHT' examples. I do that with EVERYTHING, though. It's just tougher with Seated dollars, because the pops are relatively low compared with other series that I collect, so there's not as much opportunity (Early Walkers are, of course, the exception, as they are quite SCARCE).
  3. That was a short reign. I wish him the best. I hope that they find a qualified and suitable replacement.
  4. I thought that this 6 1/2 year old article by David W. Lange deserved a repost. https://www.ngccoin.com/news/article/4397/USA-Coin-Album-Scrapbook-Gold-Part-3/ Very fascinating both from the historical aspect and from the beauty of the Seated coinage design.
  5. Like one of my old professors said: "Titles don't impress me; I am more concerned with ability and reputation".
  6. I find that you must be your own advocate and ask questions. They are not going to voluntarily tell you every detail about a purchase. They provide an image and a description. It is up to you to do the rest of the work.
  7. Go to NGC Registry, find your set and then click on points for whatever coin you'd like, on the far right side....It will give you the scoring breakdown.
  8. I didn't notice that. I like the new site better, anyway. The one thing that they could do, to improve it, is make it one page (like the old site), instead of broken up into two pages. I like to be able to scroll down and see my ENTIRE set on the same page.
  9. It looks super-cool with those CAC icons!! I only have SIXTEEN CAC coins, in my whole Walker set, and my score went up just about 3000-3500 points (not EXACTLY sure what it was before). It looks like it didn't affect anyone's rank in the top 10, either, and I am still #9 in the FULL set category. I could substitute some of my NGC coins with PCGS coins that HAVE stickers, of the same grade, from ATS, but I am NOT going to do that, out of respect for NGC. HAPPY Registry guy here!! Well done NGC!!! The NGC Registry is, by far, the best with respect to their presentation.....I love the looks of their format and I love the way that I can display ALL of my coins.
  10. I don't mind the idea. My coins will never be ALL CAC but I like getting bonus points for the ones that I DO have. I don't think that I'll ever be #1, again anyway, in any category, and I'm fine with that. I care more about completion and showcasing. Surprised that they didn't choose to have a SEPARATE CAC Registry like they do ATS. Either way, I'm FINE with it.
  11. The OP’s name was Lou. His handle stood for ‘In God We Trust’. He was a very well-liked, smart, polite and contributing board member who passed away, at a very young age, due to an unexpected and tragic illness. It was very sad. You’d have to be a special kind of stupid to disrespect a guy like that and derail his thread. Besides, there would be no reason to, as it is very fun and educational. But, yes, trolls do lack reason for their actions. Let’s hope that his legacy remains respected.
  12. IMPRESSIVE!! Joe knows his way around a camera!!
  13. I agree! That 1888 Seated Half is spectacular!!! GREAT choice!!!
  14. You're welcome, my friend. Very sorry to hear about your dad.
  15. I've posted on this subject, many times before, but since I like the idea and for the benefit of the newbies who haven't heard the story; I can sum it up, to honor your very positive and fun thread. It all started with my dad giving me coins, as a child. He gifted me an uncirculated 1882-CC GSA Morgan, when I was 7 or 8 years old. They only cost $15.00, back then, so YES, I am OLD. My father and I still share the interest, in numismatics, and it has served as a great bond between us. He also gifted me a lot of raw Walkers, Franklins, Washingtons and Mercurys that he had pulled and saved from circulation, when he was young. He gave me blue Whitman folders to place them in and a Redbook. I spent many hours reading and dreaming about rare coins. In 1993, I bought Bruce Fox's Walker book and became enamored by EARLY Walkers. It was around this time that I started buying raw examples that graded from XF to BU. In 2005, I made my first Heritage purchase and also joined the NGC Registry. I have been passionately pursuing it, ever since. I enjoy the beauty, history, rarity and value of these delightful U.S. monetary artifacts. I've slowed way down, since completing my Walker sets and winning several awards, but I still look and attend shows and buy about 4 or 5 coins a year.
  16. @Woods020 Awesome Mercury! Super grade and cool provenance!! I like the 3CN, too!!
  17. I think that cracking them out of that NGC holder would be 'unwise', at best. I think that you simply need to start looking at them more often. I am unclear on how a different holder would change that..... In any event, BAD idea, IMHO.
  18. That is in a very desirable PCGS 2.1 two-piece slab. The CAC sticker is nice, too. I have a 1936 Buffalo in a 2.1 graded MS 65 (without the CAC sticker) and I paid $75 for it, at a show. Nice coin and slab.
  19. You're welcome and it would be my pleasure.
