Collecting vs. Investing

What am I? Please tell me, investor or collector.

I began "collecting" years ago for an investment stance. Figuing precious metals would increase in value over time. And so they have. Not [as advertised] actually keeping up with inflation. nice increase, but not what one would expect listening to gold and silver sellers.

I got together a nice stash 18 years ago, and have sold much of it off to come into graded coins all the while expecting to pawn them off to the first buyer who could pay me a profit from my entry level. WELL..... I have scoured my accounts, and emptied them into the treasure chest of dealers and now have my "collection" which was supposed to be 'investments', not aquiring new friends to take up residence in my "home".

So... What to do with these new 'friends'. I did not aquire them thru love, or adoration, BUT they will not go away. Is there such a thing as a good houseguest?

Are there any of you that got caught up in the maelstrom of 'collecting' when you told yourself, "This should be a great investment.". I really don't want this stuff, but I have had a wrestling match and "don't sell me" is winning. Oh what to do. Any advice?

Thanks

Capt. Brian
