World_Coin_Nut Posted December 10, 2017 Nice piece. I just picked up an mint state 1697 sixpence a couple of weeks ago. Mine is pretty heavily toned. Definitely like the non toned pieces better. Link to comment
rmw Posted December 10, 2017 I like bright non toned pieces too but anything 300 years old would be dipped and might obscure things such as cleaning. So beware. Any pics of your 1697? Link to comment
Kohaku Posted December 11, 2017 RMW, sorry to hear you were ill, and glad to see you back! Once again, well done - that is a very beautiful coin you have there! Link to comment
rmw Posted December 11, 2017 Thanks for your kind words Kohaku. i should be back in the saddle soon and hope to post more nice British pieces. Am currently plotting and scheming auction strategy for the NYINC auctions.😉 Many fine pieces are available. Link to comment
World_Coin_Nut Posted December 11, 2017 This is in an old ANACS holder graded MS62. It looks a lot better in hand. Â Link to comment
rmw Posted December 12, 2017 A very nice piece and better struck on the reverse than most of that date! The Center of the reverse often comes incompletely Struck. this coin is a survivor of the Great Recoinage of the mid and late 1690s, led by the Master of the Mint at the time, Sir Isaac Newton. This was his day job after dodging falling apples out of trees and figuring out the theory of gravity as a result. World_Coin_Nut 1 Link to comment
