“PIF by Borrower”

For months now I’ve been crossing my fingers hoping that I’d get a nice bonus and we’d be able to pay off my student loans and maybe finish paying for the cruise we’re wanting to take in October.

I’m still waiting to find out about if I’ll get a bonus this year, but we just got a big surprise on our Taxes. Because we can claim an extra dependent this year and a couple of other things this year, instead of owing money we’re going to get some back and this is going to let us pay off my loans, pay off the cruise and have a little left over. We may be able to use that to eliminate one other debt and, if we can, that’d be three big bills / debts off our plate.

I have to wait until the money comes in and we can’t file until we get one last form, but my student loans are as good as dead - 6 years early. My reward for paying 2.5 times the normal payment every month that I could afford it.

“PIF by borrower” are wonderful words.

… Now to start working harder on her student loans. That… will take a while and be fun.

Hey, maybe, if I do get a bonus, I really will get to treat myself a little!

As it happens, just in the last couple of days, an NGC graded 1880 10G coin has come up for sale in an old fatty holder with a 1959XX serial number. I’d be a perfect addition to my set but the seller’s asking price is a bit steep. If I get a good bonus, I may try to make an offer and see if they’ll take something more reasonable for it. If I don’t get a bonus and it’s still available in a few weeks I may just negotiate a deal with my wife, just like I did when I got the 1888 in early 2018.

If it’s still available when I’m ready to buy, I’ll be really excited to get that coin. But getting rid of these bills will feel great.

I do sometimes question if I’d be better served to have put even more towards the bills and less than I currently do to the coins and the hobbies, but this is my fun, this is how I treat myself, and there are worse ways I could do it.

Yup... I'm probably going to have a hard time using most of that grading credit if I keep going for things that are already graded.

Lol well congrats on the loan payoff, it always feels good to lighten the debt load for sure.  Sure you could have paid off some debt sooner if you didn't buy coins now and again; but what fun would that be.  ;)  And as a concerned citizen I'm always willing to help out with those grading credits.  (:

Put that cruise money towards your wifes school loans. The last thing your family needs to look forward to is a Coronaviris Cruise.

The viris is here. Give it a few weeks and all hell is going to break loose.:news:

I guess we'll see. It definitely doesn't look good in several ways but... She's looking forward to it for now. We're also stocking up on some things just in case. I work from home mostly so if that gets bad we're battening down.

It's nice to see someone concentrating on paying off student loans as opposed to those that continue to put it off hoping that some socialist will take over and forgive them (i.e. - transfer the debt to the taxpayers).  It was funny to recently see Elizabeth Warren put on the spot by someone who had paid their loans off asking her if he would get the money he paid back if student loans were forgiven.  Her response was "Of course not!"

To put it as politely as possible, and without getting into politics, the Federal Government created a deeply broken system by backing student loans and making them immune to bankruptcy, and then giving people amounts of loans they could never hope to honestly repay. They gave these loans to a generation that had been brainwashed into thinking this was the only way to go. They gave these loans to low income kids who had (and had been raised by parents with) limited financial literacy. The level of student loan debt that many people have cannot honestly be repaid.

I graduated with $8,700 in debt and immediately went to work earning $84,000/year. That's a good situation. It was a good idea to give me those loans and let me get that education.

Honestly, I don't necessarily hope for debt forgiveness of the student loans. I actually hope it doesn't happen unless they first cut off the cash and add means testing so there are no more young adults stuck in such a bad situation - never again. I want them to make it so that the student loans can be removed through bankruptcy. I want the federal government to have to take a haircut for bad loans - taking maybe 10 cents on the dollar if they're lucky in some cases - just like the private banks have to when they make bad non-recourse loans.

Similar situation. It's hard to reconcile work and study. I used to ask for help here https://studenterra.com/, maybe it will help.

Mine are paid off at this point and I haven't been in a lecture in close to 8 years. So I'm good. But thanks!

Hi Mike here. I have two coins going to Heritage for sale. My handler went over the records and said these will do well . I said i have seen two sell for good prices. There 1945 Ten Centavos DDR. Worse than the 55 cent. Made in the U.S.A. In Denver and they made them in San Francisco. The whole roll graded MS 65 to MS 67. I bought them from Gov mint. I called the ANA spoke to Sam. After investigation he said wow. There are like 31 in the world and with all yours drops them to the 20's. So when i spoke to Heritage they sent two pages of packaging. Thats done. Now.the question with this virus are people  spending? I will havebto wait and see if they are off they go. I will have a reseqrve. Mike

Apparently, the spambots are searching for posts with keywords like "student loan," or "payoff," so I guess these stupid spam posts are inevitable.
