A change of course

Going to try something a bit different! I have decided to change a bit on what I am going to do with my collection. I was going to start submitting my state quarters to get graded but have decided to put that on hold for a while and stick with getting coins for my SAE (proof and MS) and modern commemoratives. I will stick with getting slabbed coins for my SAE but I am going to try something a bit different with the commemoratives. Instead of slabbed coins, I have been able to get some awesom

Downward Adjustment has been made!

I lost 371 points!! It's seem that there has been an adjustment to the point score in the modern comms proof sets. The 2006 Ben Franklin Scientist and 2006 San Francisco Old Mint took a hit yesterday. I lost a total of 371 points. These are the only coins out of the 35 that I have registered that show a change....downward. Nothing went up. Jeffrey

THE SNIPING IS KICKING MY BUTT!!

Hard time getting my 2007 MS70 SAE For the last 3 days I have been trying to get an 07 SAE at MS70 for my collection. And I am always losing the auction in the last few seconds. I really don't mind the sniping...hell I have done it few times myself. But for this particular coin...I am getting hammered. I lost about a dozen auctions in the last 3 days. There seems to be a bit of demand for this beauty. So the gloves are coming off and it's time to get "down and dirty" !! I will let you know h

May in Review!

What went on with my collection and what's next. May was a great month for my collection. I got 9 SAE back from NGC. 2001, 2003, and 2006 came back PF69UC and 2002, 2004, 2005, 2007, and 2008 came back PF70UC. And my first MS (2008) SAE I bought from the Mint came back MS-69. Next year I will be buying 3 or 4 of each to see if I can get 70s when I submit to NGC. I also puchased 7 coins from various venues last month. 1990 Eisenhower Commemorative PF69UC 1992 Whitehouse Commemorative PF6

The Zombies are coming!!

They want to eat our brains!! Here is the latest commemorative that I got...the 1987 Constitution $1. When I first saw the reverse of this coin, the first thing that popped into my head was that a group of zombies are coming to eat our brains! My picture is not the best. It's much better if you have the coin in hand. Remember...only head shots will bring em down!! I also updated my modern commemorative registry. I put in some pictures for about 20 coins that I added over the last month. An

A little more on the 08/07 Reverse

I like the discussion! I am glad to see this coin is creating alot of discussion between people. It's good to see a coin do this especially a modern one. Now my belief why it's value is going upand will stay high. The mintage numbers will have an effect on the coin. If 47,000 is correct or adjusted some time later remains to be seen. But I believe the price reflects how popular the SAE series is. It is the most popular coin(s) being collected right now! People want this coin and want it bad!

2008 Reverse SAE Variety

Why the bad rap? I have been reading on the chat boards lately about the 2008 with 2007 reverse SAE and it seems that most really don't care about the new variety that NGC found and comment negatively. That a population of 47,000 for a coin that is not even in circulation is no big deal. Why spend a couple hundred dollars on a coin that is way over priced! And to quote one post...."It's just an example of how many collectors are like lemmings and collect what someone else tells them to collect

Long weekend at work!

Doin' the overtime thing This was supposed to be my weekend off...Saturday, Sunday, and Monday...but we are so short handed in our fire department that I got the opportunity to work OT on Saturday and Sunday. The money is so damn good that I can't turn it down. And this last week we have gone through some big bucks. My daughter had her 16th Birthday Party and Confirmation Party all in one. It was a great time with all the family and friends showing up but it did cost more then we expected bu

April in Review

What went on with my collection in April Lots of good stuff going on with my collection this past month. I sent 16 coins off to NGC for grading at the beginning of the month. These were all modern commemoratives that I had left and they spanned the 80s, 90s and 00s. One came back MS-70, 2 got PF-70UC and the rest were PF-69UC. No Star designation yet...hoping to get one some day. I also purchased 8 coins off of Ebay and other dealers throughout the month. 1991 SAE PF-69UC 1995 SAE MS-69

9 Stitches and a Coin

Off to Urgent care I went! I couple weeks ago I was working on putting a shed together in my backyard. It was a 2 day project and I was nearing the end when I decided I didn't need gloves anymore to finish up. That smart thinking got me to the Urgent Care Office and 9 stitches in my index finger! The good thing about it was that my wife was feelin' sorry for me and told me to go make a small purchase for my coin collection. What I purchased in pictured below. Also I received my submission ba

No luck with the SAE!

Just can't seem to win 'em on Ebay! Those SAE in MS-69 must be some very popular coins. I am having absolutely no luck getting any of them that I bid on. I guess my bidding strategy ain't working too well. I keep my max bid, including shipping, a few bucks under the going market value. The winning bid usually is at or above...oh well, I will just keep trying. On the other hand, modern poof commemoratives, I am getting great deals on! $17 for a 1986 50c statue of liberty slabbed..that's just

Pictures Added!

And off to NGC with the rest of them! I just finished uploading the pictures of my coins that I have in my Modern Commemorative registry. I am far from the best photographer but I believe the pictures came out ok. I am probably not going to take any pictures for the ASE since they are basicly the same. While the comms are different with every coin. That is the reason I enjoy them the most...always different...most of the time wonderful...sometimes butt ugly! I also sent in the last of my co

March in Review!

What went on with my collections in March. I am quite happy to say that March was a busy month for my collection! I made some purchases from the Mint and off of Ebay. I also had a few coins graded from NGC and put alot of coins into my registry. From the Mint I received the '08 the proof and silver proof quarters, the proof presidental dollars, proof SAE, and the proof Bald Eagle commemoratives. On eBay I puchased a 1987 MS-69 SAE, a 1986 PF-69UC SAE, and 1983 Silver $1 PF-69UC Olympics

My order is in!

Not to bad with the grades I received My beautiful wife just called and said my coins are back from NGC. I already checked out the grades some time back but it did take longer than usual to get them through the process. They spent about 2 weeks in "received" status but once they they got out, they move along quickly. The Registry

I would like to add my thoughts I am relativly new to Collectors Society...Feb 2008...and I never have thought of the Registry as some kind of competitive game. I just thought it a really cool place to showcase my collection to as many people as possible ( The internet is wonderful). It is really enjoyable checking out other peoples' coins and reading the little tidbits of information about each one. Even though I have been collecting coins...Modern Proof Comms, Proof ASE, and Annual Silve

New coin in my collection

and HEY NGC....whats up with my stuff?? I am missing a few of the early 1980's commemorative coins and yesterday I reduced that number by 1! I received the 1982 Proof George Washington Silver half dollar in the mail. It was only $12 including shipping....not bad at all for a very sharp looking coin!! I was wondering if anyone knows what the orginal price of the coin was when issued from the mint? I would like to put that info into the registry with the coin. Also...whats the hold up with c

Silver Eagle Purchase

A VERY LUCKY PURCHASE! Since my 2006 20th Anniversay ASE set could not get the special designation...except the reverse proof...I have kept an eye out for the other two coins to complete the set. A couple weeks ago I got one coin, NGC graded MS-69, for $80. A couple days ago I saw an auction on Ebay for the last coin I needed to finish the collection. It was NGC graded PF-70. The bid was at $90 when I put my bid in with a max of $130. The value according to NumisMedia is $250. I really didn'

2nd Submission on the way Home!

Expensive Month! I checked on my latest submission to NGC and they are on the way back home. The 1999 Susan B. Proof and 1999 Yellowstone Comm both came back as PF-69 UC. I also submitted 20th Anniversary S.E. set. I knew the reverse proof would be the only one getting the special designation...it came back PF-69. The 2 other S.E. in the set came back as MS-70 and PF-70 UC. I am very happy with the outcome. Since I couldn't get my S.E. anniversary set designated, I went out and looked for

Registry Correction

Problem fixed with the Ben Franklin "Scientist" I just wanted to let everyone know that I found a error in the registry with the score for the B.F. "Scientist". The PF70 CA and PF70 UC points were reversed. I sent an e-mail out to NGC and they fixed the error today. It might give a some of you a few extra points in your registry. Happy Collecting and Good Luck with grading! Jeffrey
