and to everyone, have a great new year
Reflecting back on our past year ....
I've seen numerous friends make major contributions to their collections. Even if I might not have commented at the time, it didn't go unnoticed. Well done to each and everyone of you.
I was fortunate to "learn" about coins from other countries through various journals you have posted.
I was very lucky to share some personal thoughts from various members who were having a rough go of it at the time.
First one to start the new year
Season's greetings everyone,
Well, last evening I decided to get an early start on the new year and I filled out the forms to submit 2 more rounds of coins for grading. An Early Bird submission and a Modern submission. Between the 2 submissions are more Franklin proofs (I can't seem to get enough, ) and some really sweet Lincoln proofs for my Abe's Red Hots collection. Included in my Early Bird submission is a really nice and well defined MS Lincoln 1909 VD
Most definitely, the bigger the coin the better
per my previous post about sending in a set of 25th Anniversary Eagles to be graded and slabbed in retro holders. They just arrived back today. I total agree with the thought that smaller coins would not look very well in the black retro holders but the bigger coins aren't too shabby !
As promised here is a photo of the set. Since they were not sealed from the mint, only the (2) received the 25th Anniversary label, which is really no big deal
Fastest submission
Agree with what Rick stated. I sent in the Eagles I wrote about last week for retro holders on Dec. 5th and today they are coming back. Maybe Barry Allen is working at NGC for the holidays!!!
Received (3) 69's and (2) 70's could have been better but could have been worse. Am very satisfied with what it is. As soon as I get them in hand will post photo's as requested.

for any graded coin
Greetings once more everyone;
Yes, it has been quite a while since I last added an already graded coin to any of my collections and today I finally got to do just that. A fellow store owner on E-Bay and I did a trade from our stores and I added the 1891 Morgan to my collection in exchange for (2) 25th Anniversary American Silver Eagles. Everything was within a few dollars of the other in FMV so was very happy with the deal.
I also have a number of coins I need to subm
It would make it unique and look pretty sweet ....
Holiday Greetings everyone;
Today while sitting here at the computer and looking at some coins the thought hit me to pull one of my sets of ungraded 25th Anniversary Eagles out of the safe and have them graded in the black retro holder. I really believe they would look great and also think it would be a unique look for a complete set of 25th Anniversary Eagles in black. The more I contemplate this notion the more I like it. Now I need
I really miss adding to my collections
Greetings, all my friends;
Have been away from the Journal board here too long or so it seems. As most know I have been a busy little beaver setting up my store on E-Bay and selling, selling, selling. Well, I now have to admit, I miss adding, adding, adding. I haven't added a coin to any of my collections in what seems like 6 months and
I MISS IT !!!! How addicting is this hobby of ours! I do have a number of coins ready to be graded but haven'

Greetings all;
I would like to give a shout out to one of our fellow collectors and recognize him. Todd Peters is up against it and giving the good fight. Although most here only know each other by our dealings and communications and we are lucky if we ever meet. Todd is a respected member of this community. I have never met Todd, but feel like I know him somewhat. Todd, our prayers are with you buddy, we all are pulling for you in your time of need.
U.S. Mint stopped selling
thought this would bring back memories to some and interesting reading to others.
Also remember the big silver melt of 79 and 80 !!

following a tradition here at the CS
It has been kind of a tradition here to recognize a fellow collector when you have completed a transaction with them. Since we do not do the star thing, it is just a way to let everyone know this is an honorable person to deal with.
I would like to give a shout out to bradyc. Brady purchased a handful of my Kennedys recently and I could not of asked for a more smooth and fair transaction and paid the same day!!! We started with the FMV and negotiated f
It just isn't going to happen
Greetings once again everyone,
After talking to other collectors here and posting about selling some of my collections, it finally hit me (duh) that trying to sell a complete collection is almost impossible as not too many collectors here have 10 - 15 thousand dollars just laying around to spend on whole collection(s) but most everyone here is willing to buy single coins. I really wanted to keep my collection(s) intact but it is what it is. So I will entert
Best definition I have ever come across
Greetings everyone.
Food for thought...............
As most of you know I have offered my collections up for sale for a reasonable offer. With a number of contacts wanting to know what I wanted for this or that and having coins that I couldn't find any recent auctions for I finally found this definition of what Fair Market Value is and why it is. It was probably on the web site of Numismedia all along I just didn't see it till today as I was sear
about which auction houses and why
After reading the responses and communicating with a few here at the CS and talking to the reps from various houses, it does seem that the peak time to sell coins for profitability is during the winter months when money is more free from summer activities. That was the general consensus anyway. One auction house even went so far as to tell me during the winter months you will realize at the least a 15 - 20% greater profit margin as activities are now inside
Another contemplation
To everyone who has used auction houses, which do you prefer and why ? Am thinking of using one but it is like shopping for a car, everyone says they have the best deal. I'd like to hear from the grassroots on this one......
thanks,
Mike

Been gone over 2 months now and I cannot find them
Another day, another mystery. Greetings once more my fellow collectors. Today I went to check on the FMV of my Lincoln Union Shields since they have been missing for more than 2 months now. I guess I should clarify that the 2010 initially had a FMV of $250.00 for a long while and then about 2 months ago that value disappeared and no value for the 2011 or 2012. I posted this question to the chat board and was informed it was a glitch in the
Offer here first before listing on auction
Greetings all. I just posted an ad for various coins I am selling in the Money Marketplace chat board. Give it a look see and if there is something you are needing to fill a slot get in touch with me. Much rather help out fellow collectors here at the CS if at all possible.
best,
Mike

Pulled out a winner
Greetings all,
Read a while back and forgive me but can't remember who wrote about finding a gem or two in coins put back and not graded for whatever reason and you tend to forget them. Well, I recently remembered this one container of proofs that I thought I might get graded someday when I got around to it. Well, that day came and went and now I have a really nice 1950 Lincoln proof that just recently was returned with a number of other coins I submitted
Coins submitted to NCS
Greetings once more fellow collectors. If you recall about a month ago I posted B4 photos of 2 Franklins Proofs I was submitting for conservation at NCS then onto grading by NGC. Coins arrived today and NCS did it again !!!! Fantastic job. I have attached the B4 and after photos so you can see the fantastic job NCS has done again. This is the second time I have used them and I would not hesitate one moment to use them for any conservation job one may have.

Could this be the harbinger we have all expected
Received this in my e-mail tonight. (Title of E-Mail was: NGC CrossOver special for US and world coins) I know we discussed at length when certain PCGS coins were removed from various sets oh, about what, 6 months ago or so. It was brought up at that time that it was in the stars that NGC would become exclusive in only allowing "their" coins into the register sets. So I ask, is this the harbinger we have all been reluctantly expecting and h
