Now there is error labels and this one takes the cake
This was so good I just had to share it.
While checking out E-Bay tonight I found this listing
item number: 320783861177
I wrote the seller and asked:
the certification on the slab says 1950, the date on the coin says 1959
whats up ?
His response was this:
this coin was slabbed by PCI as a 1950 (an error on their part). Such an occurrence is rare and makes it more collectable and more valuable. The 1959 is valuable in it's
Pulled out a winner
Greetings all,
Read a while back and forgive me but can't remember who wrote about finding a gem or two in coins put back and not graded for whatever reason and you tend to forget them. Well, I recently remembered this one container of proofs that I thought I might get graded someday when I got around to it. Well, that day came and went and now I have a really nice 1950 Lincoln proof that just recently was returned with a number of other coins I submitted

Did not expect this .....
Went here tonight to see all the award winners and wow was I surprised to find my Franklin Proof Set 1 received a Best Presented award. Totally unexpected believe me. Like to also congratulate all the other award winners.

Feel it is an honor
Good day all;
I just found out that not one but two of my coins are featured in the new NGC Coin Explorer. The 1961 Franklin PF and the 1951 Franklin PF. Needless to say I felt honored.

Never seen this before
Greetings once again my fellow collectors. It has been awhile since I last posted as I have been really busy pursuing another adventure I have had for a long time (more on that later this week)
I was on the phone talking to another long time member here on the CS the other night about Franklin Proofs and when I went to look up the FMV for a particular year I couldn't believe what I was looking at. There was NO Red (decrease in FMV) in the whole series. ONLY Gree
Way less expensive as a DIY project
SPHansen just wrote about bidding on a tabletop light kit on E-Bay. When I went to look at the setups and the price, I was so glad I just built my own. Some of these kits were between $49 and up to $225 I built my light tent (box) for under $10 I can change the background from white to light blue to black and to grey whatever I choose. I also chose to use CFL flood lamps (5000k) (natural daylight) which always remain cool to the touch.

from this extreme heat
Greetings everyone. Well, if you have been in the midwest like me you know about the extreme heat we have been having. I have not even looked at a coin for a week. A/C has been running 24/7. Man, it has gotta break soon (heat) (we can only hope) Today with the heat index it was 115 here in central IL.
Anyway hope everyone is staying cool.
I will leave you with our forecast for tomorrow from a local TV station. This is finally a bit too much even for me

Another contemplation
To everyone who has used auction houses, which do you prefer and why ? Am thinking of using one but it is like shopping for a car, everyone says they have the best deal. I'd like to hear from the grassroots on this one......
thanks,

Greetings once again;
Was wondering (since I have no experience) selling coins thru an auction house and it sounds like they charge basically the same for the same service, which Auction house(s) would you recommend in consigning coins to ? What has been you positive AND negative experiences with them. Appreciate all the responses.

Been gone over 2 months now and I cannot find them
Another day, another mystery. Greetings once more my fellow collectors. Today I went to check on the FMV of my Lincoln Union Shields since they have been missing for more than 2 months now. I guess I should clarify that the 2010 initially had a FMV of $250.00 for a long while and then about 2 months ago that value disappeared and no value for the 2011 or 2012. I posted this question to the chat board and was informed it was a glitch in the
What happened to values .....
Greetings all;
I came here early Friday afternoon and checked my Kennedy's and ALL the FMV of every coin was now in red and only a fraction of their FMV from the day before. Then went to my Ike's and the very same. I called NGC and talked to Lisa and she was not aware of what was going on but passed on the info to higher ups. Still haven't heard back from anyone but is anyone else experiencing this phenomenon ?

PLEASE UNREGISTER those coins when sold
I purchased and received 3 really nice coins today. (2) PF70UC Kennedy's and a really nice MS65 Morgan and wouldn't you know, when I tried to register them I got the equivalent of the Micosoft's "blue screen of death" on ALL three !!!!! Yes, registered to someone else. I mean I've hit it before on one (very rarely) but on three What are the odds of that happening? When I asked the sellers they responded that they hadn't registered them. They bough
dont tell me this was a mistake as it has been long overdue
What a pleasant surprise it was to come here today and see that my Kennedy collection had an adjustment on the points. Seems like most of the Kennedy years had an upward adjustment, have to check further. I gained over 8800 points today just on my Kennedy collection. Next stop, 70,000 points. Getting ready to add the SAE 25th Anniversary set. Should arrive within the next few days from grading. That should maybe put me really cl
all for under a dollar
I sat here today continuing to research on how I could make my coin photo's better. As with most of you I continue to learn the more advanced settings of my Canon EOS digital camera. If you recall back in December I purchased an "Ott" type lamp which really made a big leap in the quality of the photo's I had taken before the lamp. Now today as I was sitting here the proverbial lamp went on over my head (pardon the pun)

never happened before
Just received an e-mail that another member here is trying to register one of my Kennedy's. Usually it is the other way around when you purchase a coin and the seller hasn't removed it (unregister it)from their set.
Could they have entered a wrong number (I checked their collection and they are in need of this particular coin) ? Don't want to think somebody is trying something shady, but has anybody else had this happen to them ?
Please let me know if you had ha
Do you have your eye on a special coin
Ok, everybody admit it. You want to get just ONE "Special" coin with your return money, right !!!! Don't know if you can pull the trigger and get it. Well I am in the same boat. It would be an upgrade coin (if I can find it)
I must admit it would be hard NOT to attempt to get it if I came across it.
If it happens, I will let everyone know.
Anyway, good luck to all who will attempt to get at least one coin with their return money.

Not a real surprise
I can't remember the last time I used one of these to pay for anything Have a handful just sitting collecting dust. I think most numismatist probably saw this coming for awhile.

What a day ..........
Today I upgraded my 1967 SMS Kennedy from a MS67 to an MS67UC. This was one hard coin to find. Collectors are NOT parting with this high of grade very often so the acquisition of it makes it all that much sweeter. Also to top it off I have now climbed into the TOP 30. I never thought when I started collecting these that I would break into the TOP 50 but then that was my goal last year to make TOP 40. I know and I have no desire nor the resources to make it to #1 or c
2 Upgrades to my Franklin Collection
Greetings once again my brethren and sisters of the round;
Today I upgraded 2 of my Franklin Proofs. The 1958 and 1959.
The 1959 is a "Key Date" in the Franklin Proof series with less than 1% of total mintage exhibiting enough cameo contrast on both obverse and reverse to warrant a cameo designation. I was lucky enough to land a PF67CAM.
I wish everyone great luck in their search for what they seek.

It was a very good year....
Greetings all;
I am fortunate to be able to upgrade another one of my Kennedy's. This time around it was the 1983. This was a very good month for me as I added or upgraded a number of coins. Now that the funds are dry, (choke,choke) It's off to work we go......
Good fortune to all

or which way did they go ......
Called NGC this morning and verified that they in fact had my correct mailing address on the package. Then called the local post office and they checked the status with their system. It showed it as out for delivery in Chicago on the 28th but no update since, but she said that these status updates are computer generated and to not put too much stock in them. (easy for her to say) So the onus is on the USPS at this time. I will sit here and wait for the time b
The more I talk to other collectors the more tend to agree
Just finished talking to a few other collectors about the pros and cons of submitting coins for grading or just buying graded coins. I have analyzed data for over 6 months now not only from myself but other friends that collect and it is over whelming that money is(wasted) on getting coins graded (raw cost of the coin, shipping charges, insurance, grading fees) With grades which are opinions based on loose data at best and a standard
It would make it unique and look pretty sweet ....
Holiday Greetings everyone;
Today while sitting here at the computer and looking at some coins the thought hit me to pull one of my sets of ungraded 25th Anniversary Eagles out of the safe and have them graded in the black retro holder. I really believe they would look great and also think it would be a unique look for a complete set of 25th Anniversary Eagles in black. The more I contemplate this notion the more I like it. Now I need
