About this journal

Time to switch gears.  Focusing on buying some investment property and need some capital. I haven't really added much

to my coin collection in awhile either.  I decided all my SAC, Presidential dollars and Silver Eagles must go.  If anyone is

interested, please look at my sets and let me know what tweaks your interest.  I am not done being part of this society just

clearing house... :)

Poor 2014 U.S. Mint Sets

Submitted only 18 coins from 55 Mint Sets What can I say. You wait all year for the next annual Mint Sets to arrive hoping to find just one MS69 coin. For me, that hasn't happened yet and after going thru 55 Mint Sets, it won't be this year either. Out of 1,540 coins, I was only able to find 18 good enough to submit for grading. My only real goal is to populate my Presidential Business Strike Registry set. All duplicates and other coinage are sold to support my habit. Here is the res

Personal Family Dilemma

To Sell or not to Sell.... I know we all collect for different reasons and we, at times, change the direction what we collect and certain times. I started the SAE set a few years back. Silver was low so I expected to buy the West Point Eagles directly from the US Mint. I could afford to buy around 10 of them and hopefully find a few that could be MS70 to keep one and sell the rest to support "the habit".....collecting that is. I know I would never be able to afford to purchase those earli

Persistance Pays Off

One big WOW too! Here is my latest submission results. I been chasing the 2011 P Sacagawea and the P Garfield for some time. I got both MS68's this time. I wasn't going to pay $300 or more for either of these modern dollars. I have now looked at about 40 - 2013 US Mint sets and I have to say that the quality has really took a nose dive. It will really take some effort to get all the 2013 Presidents in MS68 year. I may need to even purchase a few but no way would any be worth $500 or mor

PCGS Crossover to NGC

More times than not, modern coins do not crossover. With all the hype how PCGS coins are valued higher, it doesn't always mean their grades equal NGC. I have come to a conclusion that PCGS over grades most modern coins meant for circulation. Perhaps they don't value modern coins importance so they don't examine as carefully as they do with the Commemorative coins and the older classics. I usually buy a few PCGS modern coins hoping they crossover to NGC to keep my registry as close to NGC co

NGC's reponse to adjusting the Presidential MS point

WE ALL HAVE BEEN DUPED! I did complain to NGC and got the same response posted on my earlier post. So let me respond to that. After 10 years of having the same points issued with very little change, NGC now believes the points are way over the top and had to be adjusted. Well, I am not buying it. We all have been DUPED. The series are coming to a close after this year. That means NGC will not be making more money on Presidential Dollar submission. I can tell you that anyone th

NGC slow to update census

Is it because of major dealers? Anyone else notice that NGC is slow to update the census after any major dealer has had many submissions. I know that NGC had the results before end of day on Friday because the dealer was making many of the coins for sale on Ebay starting around mid-week last week. The census is a very valuable tool for all of us coin collectors to know just how many are graded. Seems to me NGC waits to keep the numbers low to please the major dealers. For examaple, If I

New design for the 2012 Sacagawea Native Dollar

"Trade Routes in the 17th Century" For all of us that love the new designs of the Sacagawea dollars or those into horses or Indian culture and history. You'll love the proposed new design!! New Categories Needed!!

Open and Closed Set Types From my last journal entry, more agree with me and a few diehard PCGS collectors do not. They do not believe they should give up there ranking now. I take great pride when I select coins to send them in for grading to NGC. I do not send in bulk like most dealers who do not care about the coins' appearance just the grade. When I purchase coins for my registry, I look for only NGC coins first after all, this is a NGC Collectors Society. How would you feel if you j

Nearly 60 but can not retire and just was laid off

See anything you like below, let me know WOW... One can never really be prepared when you get laid off from work. When you get close to retirement age and realize you may never get to really retire, it does get depressing. Doesn't matter how old you are when it happens, it feels the same way. Problem is that I have three grown children and all of them are out of work as well. I been trying to help out with two of them moved back home...again. Most of you have already experienced this you

My latest NGC submission

Not bad but once again...nothing new for my registry. I thought I would get at least three MS68's and I did but not ones I really wanted. I didn't have much cash to submit a whole lot but did spread it around on some nickels, quarters and dollars. I was able to replace the 2011 P Hayes Early Releases with a regular label. I really don't care much for those "Releases". I see more of the dealers got the message this year and hardly any offered those...Thank goodness. My secondary goal is to

MS Nickels - Six Full Steps

Its not easy finding these in higher grades with full steps. Its been awhile since I posted anything to the journal or have been able to do much collecting since my unemployment beginning of the year. It seems the market place is not as eager to hire a Vietnam-Era Vet over 55. As the line goes from the movie "Youth is wasted on the wrong people"... Here is my lastest attempt for those nickels: 001 1988 D 5C MS 66 6FS 002 1989 P 5C MS 66 6FS 003 1989 D 5C MS 65 6FS

Mint State Presidential Dollars

Banks may not order any more future rolls??? Isn't it strange that the local bank branches which is part of a large midwest banking instition has decided not to order any more business strike presidential dollar rolls? Their reasoning is that they believe there is more than enough dollars in circulation now. SAY WHAT?? Isn't that one of the main reasons why the US Mint and our government started with dollar coins again for circulation is to eventually replace or least reduce the amount of p

Mint Sold Out

going going gone...in 2 weeks The Mint is now sold out of the 2 roll 2009 lincoln set after only 2 weeks....wow...amazing...glad I ordered two boxes last week. The Uncirculated Lincoln Comm. is official sold out as well. I did manage to order some of the new Louis Braille coins earlier today. Looks like the 2009 Sacagawea 250 dollar boxes are back in stock again....get them quick....

Merry Christmas to me!

One of my best submission ever!! I have been finding a coin here and there and had waited until I had enough for a submission to make it worth while. I just learned of the results and I am really impressed. The 2014 P SAC MS69 and the 2014 D Kennedy MS69 blew me away. I should be collecting Mint State nickels but I thought collectiing the proofs was enough. The 1972 P nickel MS66 6FS was more than I expected as well. There is only one that exists in that grade before this one. Merry X

Lousy Presidential Proof Sets

Tempted to return this sets but not sure if I would get any better next time. I gotta tell ya, these new Presidential Proof Sets are the worst I've seen from the US Mint in awhile. Remember the commemorative Old Mint from last year. Most had fine scratches and/or tiny pit marks. They are on these proofs as well including most are stained as well. If you look at the design closely, you will see why it will be near impossible to obtain a perfect PF70 on these coins. Also, I have found what

Latest Submission - Mark Twain

My best so far I had ordered 20 proofs and 20 U.C. from the Mint the very first day offered. The Proofs were not high quality so I was only able to submit 3 of them. I am pleased with this result since the previous two submissions was a disappoinment. It was fun while it lasted.

Corporate Money has no place in these personal registries It was fun being No 1 in the Presidential Business Strike set while it lasted. I take pride that I am just a small collector with small resources to be Number 1 for even a year. I only will have NGC slabbed coins in the presidential registry because this is a NGC website. Until PCGS allows NGC coins in their sets, they should be ban from this site as well. I bet over half the awards went to collectors that have over half their collec

In search of high grade SBA's

Would you believe a MS67 from a US Mint set? One would think that all the 79'-81' Mint Sets have been searched over and sold and searched over again. It was just by chance I picked a Ebay seller with low Feedback numbers as one that doesn't sell that much or is fairly new at Ebay. I only paid $8.00 plus shipping. As soon as I looked thru my 16x piece, I suspected the 1981D was a MS67. I even thought the 1981S was a MS66. I was half right, the 1981D is a MS67. Just got the results back fr

I have returned to Collectors Society!

I have not been active in this society for a few years.  I have been slowly selling off my collection. I have been battling a rare blood cancer.  I may only have only a couple more chemo treatments left, fingers crossed.  Prays are welcome! I have lots of time on my hands and been forced to retire middle of last year.  I decided that once I am indeed in remission, full time retirement is not really for me. I have recently  started to submit coins to NGC once again.  I got my

First Day Issue Presidential Dollar set

All will go!! I made a decision last night and felt the same way this morning. I been collecting the Presidential dollars since the start in 2007. It gets to be a lot to have a FDI set, a Business set, a SMS set and a proof set. I have stopped the SMS set about two years ago. I realized I would have been one of those collectors what would have loved to try to order the 2011 25th Anniversary Silver Eagle set. I could only afford to order one set. A set that could really appreciate over the

Presidential Dollars, 2007-Date, Mint State Registry Point. How in the world can I lose over 51,000 point??? Some are very low mintage and low in high grades. I have worked on this set for 10 years. Half the dollars are ones I found raw and had graded. We will conclude this series this year and how can NGC strip all the points away now???
