About this journal

All bullion coins are minted at West Point, NY.  The S mint mark is a scam to make people think they are getting something special, at double, or triple the going price of a real Silver Eagle. In effect, the "S" coin is a phony, and doesn't have a place in the Registry. "Minted at" coins fall into the same category. The label can say anything they want.....even the Sheboygan Mint!

NGC removed the other coins, this one has to go also.

I too laid out hundreds of dollars only to have them erased, such  as the "2000 Millennium" ASE. Another gem that we "had" to have.  They won't pay   those coins we now have to eat.

Here's to Howard Eason

Only 500? Hello everyone! Well Howard, you made it. The big 500. CONGRATULATIONS! It is my goal to replace you by the end of the year. The coins I bought from you will help me stand at the 500 mark soon. I am extremely fortunate to be even as close as I am. Keep up the good work. If you don't, I'll pass you. Let's see a 450? Good Luck!

HERE'S THE BAD NEWS!

At last they finally admit defeat. Hello all, Here's the latest from the Mint.   Dear United States Mint Customer, Production of the United States Mint American Eagle Silver Proof and Uncirculated Coins was suspended this year because of unprecedented demand for American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins. All available silver bullion blanks are being allocated to the American Eagle Silver Bullion Coin Program, as the United States Mint is required by Public Law 99-61 to produce

Here's a deal for everyone!

The price is right? I will sweeten the pot too!Good Evening fellow collectors! As I am only known here for what I write, it is time to take the initiative.I am hereby tossing the gauntlet, so to speak. My last journal was for the preservation of collectors as well as preserving a cherished collection. I have made up my mind as to one alternative.I have 1 of 2 sets which I can offer for sale to help a fellow collector through a tough time.I have a 2009 Territorial quarter set in NGC PF 70 UC. All

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Out of one year and off to the next. Hello everyone, It's been a hectic year for me. I spend as much time in the hospital as I do with my coins. I have, however, added a few upgrades, and just tonight finished my #1 2007 Complete Proof set. I wish everyone a prosperous coming year. I will try to keep my competetive sets at the top, even if they are for sale. Have a great evening, and hope to see you all here, and writing in the journal, for a long time to come. Best Wishes, John

HALF POINTS FOR HALF SOVEREIGNS?

It makes no sense to me Hello everyone! My purple Coroner's tagged coins get only half points. They aren't good enough to get real grades. When coins that are graded get half points, it makes me think twice about getting the pristine 1855 Australian half sovereign graded. I lost 34 points this week. My set suffered a setback....of sorts. I do try hard to make these sets. When you lose not only points, but rank.....something is amiss. Five thousand points would eliminate a few of my

GUILTY!!!

I'm one of them too.......to a point Hi all,     You guys are right. I have said it all along. Dealers can have any set they want. They only have to pay for the 69 and 70 grades in the proofs.....how sweet is that? I give up trying to compete with NGC dealers. I finally went to PCGS for honest grades. I may lose to an NGC set, but my coins are still mine, and I'll put them up against the finest grades in any other slab. Yes, my sets have blue slabs in them now. I used to hate PCGS too.

Green Holder Info Site - NGC & PCGS and many more

This may be of help to everyone......sooner or later? Hello everyone! I was browsing through some grading questions, looking for a pricing list on World coins. I found something that may help identify slabs and their evolution. Just go to www.sampleslabs.com. If you don't find what you are looking for there, you may get more ideas for research. I hope this might help some. You must click on the grading company to the left to view all slabs. Good Luck and Happy collecting!

GOING FEDEX???

What a ripoff! Hello everyone! I guess you knew my two Lincolns were coming. FedEx is a joke. I had my subscriptions, expressed from the Mint facility (Indianapolis), and it took 13 days. I can walk almost that far in 13 days. The shipment went by my area, and went to MA. It sat there for the weekend. Then it took two days from their terminal to me. Did I get a refund on shipping? What do you think? Did I cancel my subscriptions with the Mint? What do you think? My seven day return

Where's our 24th President? I have four new 2012 Presidential Proof coins graded by NGC, and only three slots to put them in? WAKE UP!!! I registered them all anyway. Happy Collecting everyone! To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

FLABBERGASTING!

Impressions of images and impressive images. Hello all! WOW! What great response from all corners of this great society. I have heard and spoken to so many people since I joined than I would have ever imagined. This scanner thing is really a door/eye opener. I only tried this new technology to help myself to show off my meager attempt at coin collecting. I guess my pride in ownership and competitive nature have had something to do with this. Just as I thought my new scans were great, I

FIRST DAY OF ISSUE LABEL?

I was fortunate enough to have purchased the 2019 enhanced SAE  on opening day. I sent it in sealed mint packaging for the FDOI label and the COA number.  I am now told I cannot get a FDOI label. Why? If there was a 1 per household limit, did dealers send these in bulk to obtain one? Here is just one listing from a familiar place:  “2019 S SILVER EAGLE REVERSE ENHANCED NGC PF 70 FIRST DAY OF ISSUE 5826281-003 OGP AND COA INCLUDED” More than 10 available? I rest my case.

FINALLY......MY MODERN COMMEMORATIVE HALF DOLLARS ARE COMPLETE !!!

A 1982-D WASHINGTON 50C, MINT STATE 69? Wooooohooooo Yes......finally found a #1 coin. I completed listing my Modern Commemorative half dollars today, and gained over 100 points. I was hoping to make it closer to 500. I am still proud of where I am with such a meager collection in comparison to some. This set now is mostly PCGS, but a few NGC slabs made it. According to population reports from PCGS, I now have 4 top coins. Lucky me! When I find a way to get a good photo of these bluish

FEEBAY MAY HAVE MET IT'S MATCH!

Want to list your coin auctions for free? Hello everyone! I found a place to go. Yes, there is a fee for the top perks, but feebay has no perks. It has become a place to plop your hard earned investment to be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Listing fees, subtitle fees, 1 free photo, gallery fees, highlight fees.......had enough yet? No, you say??? How about the hefty "final value fee"? Next comes the "PayPal Only" coin transaction? Give me a break!( I kept it clean) I cannot

EVEN MY COINS HAVE E D?

NO........It's not the E D you take the pills for! Hi all..........again! Here's is another coin with E D? Environmental Damage. This will go to NGC when the other comes back from NGC. I will make out the paperwork to send it to NCS, to be conserved and then sent to NGC to be graded and then sent back to me. I wonder if it will look as nice as this one? They say NCS works wonders. I wish I knew what the environment did to that coin. I checked the NGC Bibliography on World coins f

EVALUATION or DEVALUATION?

I guess I have to do this on my own too? Hey everyone! My eyes are so tired of looking at coins for submission. Will they grade this? Will this not pass? Why did that green spot have to be on such a pretty coin? Bah.....humbug! I have to buy several coins to find one suitable for evaluation? WOW! There goes the budget. I guess with the older circulated coins, it is almost a necessity to do this? I got burned severely on my last NGC submission, so I am trying a different approach.

Environmental Damage PartII

Can you ever be sure? Hi everyone! I was just looking to see if all my latest submissions made 70s, when I saw cvcc's journal. I guess it happens to everyone sooner or later. I have done what I can to prevent environmental damage. These slabs, regardless of grading company, are not perfect. They do a fine job of physically protecting the coin, but airborne contaminants are just that. They infiltrate places nothing else can go. I see 2009 coins already toning in slabs.....why? They are

ENCROACHMENT!

1st and goal on the 13. Hello all! Just a short note today. I upgraded a few quarters, and am in the "Red Zone" now. 13 more spots and I will have reached this year's goal. A member of the 500 club? I have been holding an ace, and thanks to a few members, I may not have to play it yet. Thanks to all of you for helping. Thanks for the support and guidance from others. Economic Depression?

That's exactly what it is! Hello all! It is on a somber note I address the Society. The economy has struck the heart and sole of our collecting society. Being a new(and little guy), I can do a lot of the newer coins in lesser grades. I can get results and complete sets quicker and cheaper than those seeking perfection. I come now to a depressing situation. A few collectors, more serious and committed to the hobby, than I, have fallen on hard times. These aren't people like me with o

EBAY?.........WHAT'S EBAY?

Oh yeah......I think I remember. Hello all, I love this place. I just remembered all the FVF, and listing fees, and the extra imaging fees, and not selling a thing unless I'd ship for free, and sell for ten cents on the dollar. I went to eBid and have had decent results........for free, forever. Well, back to the point. Ebay is a great place to waste your money listing all the purple tagged slabs from NCS/NGC. In less than two weeks the place is flooded with some very nice, and diverse coi

EBAY,EBAY, AND MORE EBAY!!!

The bigger the greed......the bigger the need? Hello everyone! It's all about money. They(eBay) could care less about the coins we buy and sell. I bought raw coins from the best in the business, and also from some I thought to be shady. When they got to the graders, both were junk. So much for selling valid coins through eBay. Graded coins need an obverse and a reverse scan? The serial number is it's verification.....isn't it? Raw coin images can be so fuzzy, you can't tell if it's even a co

EARLY RELEASES PRESIDENTS

Some are blue labels and some are........ Hi everyone, It takes a bit of getting used to the new ER, blue labels. They do look great, and set the coin off with a brighter color. I also got my multiholders today, but alas, they are that same old boring burgundy. It says ER on the label, so I guess it's OK. I but the coin, and the label only states what's inside. I see the minor coins look great in the new label too! May this trend continue and everyone get a set to put away. Thanks to the

DON'T EVER CUSS NGC

Free security is hard to pay for. Hello all....again! My computer crashes, burns, gets stolen with my coins, decides to elope, or other, heres what makes NGC Registry so great. I joined the Registry for one main reason. SAFETY! With safety comes security. Where else can you register every graded coin you own (NGC/PCGS)? They let me do it for free......yes free! If everything was to be gone in the morning, I could go to the NGC Registry site, log in, and download every registered coi

You can only tie mine.....so far I haven't been here long, but I brought the competetive mood I've always had. I wanted a good set of Sacagaweas, but I got the bug. Yes, I now have the best Sac set in the Registry....bar none! All 10 coins from NGC in PF 70 Ultra Cameo. It's unfortunate I had to make a "Signature" set to make room for them. I also have the most 10 coin sets registered also. I was very fortunate to amass these. I would welcome other collectors to share the top spot. It only t

DETAILS GRADING FOR ME?

I want the Sham-wow guy to do this one! Hello all! OK......I have the third known 1933 Saint-Gaudens $20 piece. It is BU and never been touched by human hands. The trouble is that it was on a shelf in the musty old warehouse for the last 76 years, and it has some really nasty, black and green spots all over it. I want it graded, so off to NCS and we'll wait. Oooops.....it's got the dreaded ED. NGC won't grade a coin with ED. OK.....let's settle for "details grading". What do I get

COLORED COINS

I have sent a few colored silver Ghana coins to be graded, with the COA, yet they cannot be graded according to NGC policy.  See what you think? The reply: Thank you for your email. Unfortunately, we are not able to grade coins that have been colored or altered in any way after being produced from the mint per our grading policy. The alterations may have an effect on the metal and therefore we cannot guarantee the grade and condition of the coin. Thank you I rest my case.
