About this journal

Friends,

As of first ---- 15 years ago or so we had a FRIENDS list available on our member home page.  A few years ago the FRIENDS were changed to FOLLOWERS by the NGC group.

Now there is not even a followers list on our home page.  Is this Followers list coming back?? Seems the club is moving more and more towards unsocial practices.

Use to be a member could post their journal from their private member page. Now they have to go to Chat Boards to do so. I don't mind it but I know that many members do not use the chat boards. Will there be a link later to post journals from the member page?

RE> MODERN COMMEMORATIVES

Thanks for the answers to my latest quest. I did not expect more than 3 or 4 to chime in. I did save a list of all the answers. I was sure to get the San Francisco Mint and the Bald Eagle but with a list of the first coin listed by each answer I will now have 8 different coins to search for making it easier than 2. Thanks to all of you. SIX MILE RICK

To all ---- a message of peace for Todd Peters!!

Rest In Peace my Friend!! Friends, As most already know our friend has been struggling for two years or more with cancer. His last day was yesterday with family and his struggle is now over. His excitement over the past few years was mainly adding coins to his dime set. The friends he made in the club and coin community was his social network and his commitment and challenge in competing in the dime set was his most enjoyment. Some of us got to know him very well and had a few great laughs in

When Cash Is Tight

There is always room for a trade Friends, I noticed in a earlier post from Yankeejose that he was building a raw Morgan set. Since I have around 20 raw I sent some pics of the ones he was interested in. He chose one a 1898-S and did a trade of two NGC graded MS66 pennies for the Morgan. As I am helping TPETERS with his penny set one will go to him and the other will go in my set. Here is a pick of Todd's new addition; 1936 MS66rd To see old comments for this Journal entry, click h

TWINS

2 1/4s = 1/2 Friends, It is late in the day and the sun is down but I still managed to pull off a pic. Here is a set of twin reverse I/4 oz classic eagles that a friend wanted me to pick up at 10% over spot for him. The dates are 1894 and 1900. The reverse pic came out better as there is no sun I went with that one. Enjoy---- To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

I NEED TO PURCHASE A SILVER EAGLE

Getting tired of seeing that red -3?? points in my sets Friends; Well the year is off to a blast in my numismatic life and work. All is fine but when I check out my site I keep seeing the dreadful red minus points of a sale to help cover purchases. I don't have a problem with the sale it's just the reminder. If I don't get in gear and purchase a MS70 to make this situation go away I may start to have nightmares. Has anyone ever died in their sleep being beat up by a LARGE RED -NUMBER? I d

Premier Silver

Silver is down and sets are still showing up. Friends, I made a run to the silver and gold store today to grab some coins. I ended up leaving with a few coins and a group of premier silver proof sets 1992 to 1998. I have checked the regular proof sets out before and these sets seem to be better high end picks on all the coins. I won't be grading or keeping these as I only run through looking for the mistakes or varieties unknown. If anyone is a collector of these sets let me know if you

I'm at it AGAIN!!

Another BLINDING task Friends,   I recently acquired around $2500 in mint rolls of coins from Jackson. Quite a few rolls and plenty of searching. The great point in this search is the dates were mostly 2005 to 2010.   With the Sacs, Presidents, Kennedy halves, and State Quarters completed I am down to Nickels and Lincolns. There will be some nice business strikes added to my sets this winter for sure!! With the coins I acquired over the past 2 years added to the new lot I should have

Making More Room

Trades,Trades and more Trades Friends, As I usually get a box of mint sets, proof and circulated coinage from the Cash for Silver and Gold store the pile was getting pretty high. I have sold a few and done a few trades on clusters of 15 sets or so. It's not the regular trading of usual for slabbed coins but it does work well trading the sets for raw morgans, peace dollars and cash. My latest trade was 5 Silver Proof sets of which I traded for scrap silver; Morgans, Walkers, Franklins, and a

My Coin Pal is Back Home!!

A Journal on FRIENDSHIP due to COINS!! Hey Guys, Well it was really nice to finally get a e-mail from TPETERS last night letting me know he was back home from a 2 week stay with family and friends for his sons graduation. The time was not really that long but when your coin bud does not have a laptop to keep in touch the time seems doubled. We usually e-mail once or twice a week discussing different posts and coins of course. I sold around 24 of his proof coins listed on my page for sale w

State Quarters

The last of a chance. Friends, Lately I have been searching the first four years of state quarters for a good submission to put in next month. 1999 to 2003 should boost my mint sets without spending a ton of cash on coins already graded. As the quarters are the largest group in the latter years past 1998 that is my beginning and I will complete the sets as time passes. I purchased 50 rolls from stuartt and now just got 27 rolls from coindude. I do believe that with the combined group I shou

Trades and then more Trades

A month of major trading Friends, I have actually only sold 1 coin in the last month or so out of my sell or trade sets. The trades have been large with three clusters of over $1000 each traveling across the states to get a return of others to fill holes in the sets I am working on. I did two Roosevelt dime trades with Mavins that really popped my clad Roosevelt set into gear and last night a large trade of Silver Eagles to get some Mocom Dollars for the Modern Commemorative set. It is k

Free gift if you realize over $ on your submission Friends,       I had the funniest e-mail from Stack's today. Seems if you consign and sell over a certain point price wise --- they will give you a free coin!! HaHa               Now don't get me wrong --- FREE coins are GREAT --- BUT if I am selling ----       WHY??? in the world would I want a free coin for selling above their price tier??       Seems a break in costs would be more effective!!

Well winter is at least 1/2 over

I promised myself to renew my membership to grade some morgans this winter Friends; In the blast of all the expenses lately I have not renewed my membership for the free graded coins. I still have one purchase left this coming week and have decided to relax afterwords and enjoy life for a while. Heck, I always enjoy life but sometimes it can get a little hectic. I have 8 or so Morgans that do need graded which will keep me from spending money on those already graded.   I am having a gr

I promised a pic today--SILVER EAGLE

Not what was expected though. Friends, I did say yesterday I would show the liberty gold. As things are working out today I decided to do a pic for the Silver Eagle fans in the club. I purchased a 1995 MS Silver Eagle for my daughter around 10 years ago. I think it was around $12 or so. She still has it in the case it was purchased in and it is starting to look pretty nice towards a full patina spread gold tone. I decided on the reverse pic of the coin as it has a better spread on the t

Finals on the clad dime submission

O-K NGC ------ now I do feel like chopped liver!! Thank YouFriends, well not really sure of what the deal is after two submissions in a row showing excellence and getting the lower bar code thrown at me. I guess overall O-K but there are just more MS66 FTs in the pot than I imagined. Only ONE---68 and TEN---67s. Not sure NGC will see another one with my name on it.To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

Another State Quarter Submission

Friends,  As I was really thinking of getting away from the state quarter series I did decide to do another submission on the quest. A little surprised on the conflicts needed to enter this journal but I see things getting rougher as time passes. Anyway -- seeing that our journals are no longer part of our member page I have a hard time thinking that all is so well with NGC!! This is definitely going to be a rough ride!!  I will renew my membership in a month and try a few submissions.

Access Denied!!

Well I expected it. Some people just can't handle the truth or do not want to be bothered by it. Well there it is. Another journal reply that I got booted off of. That is two for the life of membership and 2 for this month. Ah well it's all good and there really was not a deal to be had anyway. I got the weekend off and will try to get up some more pics this weekend. Hope the sun is out good in the morning and I get some great shots. Happy Coin Collecting To see old comments for this

Thanks to wmfielding

I spent half of the day catching up on photos. Friends, Well Mike did some catching up on his pics last week and I saw I needed 100 or more pics. I had some good sunshine today and figured it was a perfect day to catch up my page. Now every coin has a pic for the showing. Rick To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. Changing Gears

Third gear went out----Morgans and President Dollars Friends, I have been having a great time collecting so far this year. I guess I have started around 10 different sets but two sets have set Idle. I am not sure I am enjoying these as much so they are getting moved into my Sale or Trade lot. My Franklin half dollars, Silver quarters and dimes, and my Silver Modern Commemorative dollars have taken third gear to a new level. I have added around 200 coins this year and plan to add plenty mor

CHRISTMAS!!!

Pick a member and send them a coin? Friends, A great time to share and enjoy!!! I have come up with a idea that I think should work swell. Pick another member that you know well enough to send a coin to for Christmas and leave the message on this thread. That way different people will be picked by others. You can always check this thread in my messages to see who sent to who. What do you think? To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

BIRTHDAYS

A good reason to capitalize on coin collecting. Friends, It's February and the bills are rising due to costs and heat. I have done well in adding quite a few variety coins in January that were offered to me by Bammer. They were a great addition to my collection and sent me in a different direction of collecting. All of the coins I purchased were nice detail and no toning or trashy rims, "just clear luster". I entered a journal last month needing a Silver Eagle to rid of a big red minus 394

SEARCHING and SEARCHING

My eyes feel like large sticky bubbles!!! Friends, I don't know how the graders keep from having blurry vision. As I searched through another 4400 statehood quarters sometimes I hit a few rolls that are very lustrous. Of course these are what I am looking for and at first the hits and scratches are very easy to see. The quarters go into the spending pile quickly and the keepers are very few. By the end of 2 or 3 rolls of flipping full luster coins in a light the continuous reflection gets m
