About this journal

Friends,

As of first ---- 15 years ago or so we had a FRIENDS list available on our member home page.  A few years ago the FRIENDS were changed to FOLLOWERS by the NGC group.

Now there is not even a followers list on our home page.  Is this Followers list coming back?? Seems the club is moving more and more towards unsocial practices.

Use to be a member could post their journal from their private member page. Now they have to go to Chat Boards to do so. I don't mind it but I know that many members do not use the chat boards. Will there be a link later to post journals from the member page?

Strange Findings

Could it be a setup die tool? Friends, I was doing some pics of my Lincolns of which the proofs were too dark and the business strike were too bright. They will all need a redo but in the task I found something cool on the reverse of the 1974-D. It seems to be a plate or tool with the number 22 in the center of it. Left on the die and compressed into the reverse before making this Lincoln. Rick To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

Stock Market Crash Again?

How will our coin values do? Friends, Have you been keeping up with all the hype on the value (downfall) of the US dollar. It seems that we will start to see the adjustments of the end of the corp. bail-outs and the falling of US dollar values in May. Along with all that our dollar is fixing to be replaced. I am very glad that I have not invested in any stock to lose next month. I think we are in for a rough finish for the rest of the year. We have heard and read articles on all this sin

Still waiting on the 1952 proof set

Tearing apart the Lincoln submission Friends, As I await the verdict of my 1952 proof set that was sent to NCS I have took some time to recheck the Lincolns for grade values. I have managed to delete 15 or so as to lower values than grading costs but still have a hefty 32 coins to submit. On the "COOL" side one Lincoln -- MS66rd or so is the 2000 business strike with a double date!! I have found in the past that these varieties may not be listed and as such just get the regular grade. State Quarters

The last of a chance. Friends, Lately I have been searching the first four years of state quarters for a good submission to put in next month. 1999 to 2003 should boost my mint sets without spending a ton of cash on coins already graded. As the quarters are the largest group in the latter years past 1998 that is my beginning and I will complete the sets as time passes. I purchased 50 rolls from stuartt and now just got 27 rolls from coindude. I do believe that with the combined group I shou

State Quarters

A roll searching week! Friends, I received a monster box of 50 mix date rolls pre 2004 from Stuartt last week. My investment will be $50 over value and the count of submission coins is averaging 2 per roll. I will be down to 10 rolls left this morning with a cool Alabama die break that supports Helen Keller's name like a plant growing off the arm of her chair. Another special coin is the Kentucky with a solid blue reverse, top grade and full luster (looks like a star designation may find this

State Quarter Submission

What a blast!! Friends, It took a year to get the grading funds up. I finally got the chance to send in all the nice quarters I saved for the state quarter set. With 86 MS quarters and 19 SMS quarters I am down to only 14 coins missing from my set "Rick's Keepers" to complete it. I was also pleased to help another set (P.C.) with additions to get very close to the NGC top rank. One more submission later on should achieve the goals for both sets, his and mine. Also helping (V.P.) as his s

State Quarter Circulation set collectors WANTED!!

Christmas is near and I would like to help others that are building these sets. Friends, As I have sent a few large submissions in to build my state quarter set I have very many extras. I would like to give some away as gifts this year to help others with their set. No matter if you are building the state quarter set or just need 1 for a type set. Free gift if you realize over $ on your submission Friends,       I had the funniest e-mail from Stack's today. Seems if you consign and sell over a certain point price wise --- they will give you a free coin!! HaHa               Now don't get me wrong --- FREE coins are GREAT --- BUT if I am selling ----       WHY??? in the world would I want a free coin for selling above their price tier??       Seems a break in costs would be more effective!!

Soon to get the gears grinding again!!

My collecting motor has been down for a while now. Friends, Well I am soon to renew my NGC membership and start sending in more of those great coins I have been hoarding. It has been a rough winter cash wise but my work schedule is flowing once again. I did manage to do a few sales and trades with promissory notes while I was low on cash but have overcome the debts and now ready to start spending a little cash on new coin ventures. I hope to complete my sets 1965 to date and start back coll

SOCIETY CHANGES

WOW I hope we don't change the format after we get use to this one! Society and friends, I threw a couple Peace Dollars together to start a new set last month but didn't check out the new site until today after selling 2 Morgans. I have started a A S E set which I also added a couple spots. Anyway, I decided to add the low-ball coins to my Morgans and all the coins I sold last year "$26,000" worth were available for entry into my set. I sure am hopeful that I caught everything in time, you

I frame post & beam houses in the mountains of South Carolina. I have a few hobbies but I wanted one more and that became the morgan dollar set. I have been to shows, auctions & read countless amounts of material on the subject. I never thought it would be so time consuming and educational. Now that I think I know everything I just enjoy finding a good coin once in a while for my set.I started out with a set of four rub down dollars you couldn't read. From there I purchased around 50 ung

Silver Eagles are nesting in my office

14 MS69 eggs hatched tonight Friends, While I don't have the finances to purchase older MS graded dollars I have been watching for the Silver Eagles. Most MS69s are going for $25 so I grabed a few more. I guess I have 50% of the set and may be able to finish it out this year. It is nice to purchase so many graded coins at the same time and not knock on the poor house door. I just purchased them tonight so I can't post any images for a while. Good luck on the good ones! HAPPY COIN COLLECTING

Silver Eagle proofs

a fun day loading a set Friends, I returned home after a month of working out of state last night. This morning after a cup of coffee I had the great task of loading and cataloging a set I purchased before I left. I had purchased a set of proof eagles from TPETERS but they were recieved after I left to work in Ohio. The set is very nice and missing only one coin----the 1995-W. I'll be keeping a eye out for one but it may take some time to acquire one. It is a great set to add to but I wi

She's a beauty queen

Waiting on my 30+ day grades Hello everybody; I had a good week, no major problems and made a little money for bills on a small job. Got home from the job and checked my E-mail for my grades, not available yet. I will get them in the next week, nothing special just slot fillers for my sets. Went through my mail and Heritage Auctions was there. Just paying bills and no extra cash I still had to check it out. I saw a Morgan Silver Dollar that was so sweet ( and almost valued the total of my s

Selling Full proof sets is tough

I have decided to take a easier rout Friends, I have been trying to sell proof sets for two weeks now.1999 to 2009 all NGC pf70UC. I got offers for separate coins but no full set offers. I finally broke down and listed the sets for cherry pickers in the chats money-market. Any coin for the proof sets now 30% off until Friday which is when I will be at the coin show and hopefully sell or trade all of them. Get the hard ones before they are gone. SELLING

I swore I would stay away from raw Morgans Hey Friends; Sent off some coins for auction (raw ungraded Morgans) and was glad to finally get down to all graded coins in my possession. I have 4 graded coins to crack out and submit for next month.I wanted a couple more but didn't have the finances so I did what I swore I would not do, I purchased 3 raw ungraded coins that I will probably regret later. I have not bought a coin in a while and wanted to submit more than 4 coins for grading.

Searching Rolls Again

Strange Find Hey Friends, While searching for more 05 to 2010 MS coins for mint sets I ran across a 2005P Buff Westward Journey nickel that had a strange circle cut in it. The rim is fine so it had to happen before the rim was rolled on it. Wonder if the platchet cutter made it and it stayed through the dye? SEARCHING and SEARCHING

My eyes feel like large sticky bubbles!!! Friends, I don't know how the graders keep from having blurry vision. As I searched through another 4400 statehood quarters sometimes I hit a few rolls that are very lustrous. Of course these are what I am looking for and at first the hits and scratches are very easy to see. The quarters go into the spending pile quickly and the keepers are very few. By the end of 2 or 3 rolls of flipping full luster coins in a light the continuous reflection gets m

Sacs and President Dollars

Why??? I don't really know but that will be the next venture on my list!! Friends,   I have enjoyed so many new coins added to each set this year but with the new submission thoughts I have decided to run with the dollar pieces of the 21'st century. My Sac set is seeming to need the most interest in ranks so I am going to try for a few nice holders. I have also ordered a group of rolls for my State Quarter set that will get that set closer to completion.   Looks like a fun and intere

REVERSE CANDY

Can't show off the obverse without showing the reverse. Here it is the reverse of the 1949-S MS66 or so. No it is not going to find a FT designation but another in the set will. Here's the pic guys. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

Release the emergency brake

I can tell that nothing has moved the last week of march, maybe the emergency brake is on. Delivered-24 coins for 15 day grade 2-09-09, march -01 still no grades. Mailed 24 more coins 2-20-09 no e-mail from acceptor that it showed up. Filled out job applications and called for work but not one person called me all week. Sent 6K-8K worth of coins to an auction house which decided to move this month so the coins are on a shelf instead of in an auction, yet they haven't set an auction date. So no

Recieved my 1973 MS65 Eisenhower today

If you are the person responsible for getting this coin graded send me a shout. Friends, I have started a new series of Eisenhower Dollars - MS. I will add pictures later but the 1973 MS65 will be a challenge due to the fact that the owner must have ate fried chicken before slipping his coins into the poly-slips for grading.   Dude!!! If you realize this coin was yours send me a shout and I will buy you a pair of gloves. When I complete the set in the grades I have selected I will purchase

Ready to add a few more coins

After reading the replies to Kamakazy's journal I am sure SILVER will be the choice Friends, No posts lately but keeping up with the journals. Been working out of state this month in Ohio. A couple more weeks and a FAT check will be the trick to pay off next months bills and add a few more coins to the old collection. I'm not sure what I realy want---more silver mint set fillers or more coins for my Custom Set. I have a few lines on some silver dimes but could use some more Mocoms. The posts s

RE> MODERN COMMEMORATIVES

Thanks for the answers to my latest quest. I did not expect more than 3 or 4 to chime in. I did save a list of all the answers. I was sure to get the San Francisco Mint and the Bald Eagle but with a list of the first coin listed by each answer I will now have 8 different coins to search for making it easier than 2. Thanks to all of you. SIX MILE RICK
