About this journal

Friends,

As of first ---- 15 years ago or so we had a FRIENDS list available on our member home page.  A few years ago the FRIENDS were changed to FOLLOWERS by the NGC group.

Now there is not even a followers list on our home page.  Is this Followers list coming back?? Seems the club is moving more and more towards unsocial practices.

Use to be a member could post their journal from their private member page. Now they have to go to Chat Boards to do so. I don't mind it but I know that many members do not use the chat boards. Will there be a link later to post journals from the member page?

Time to make some room for new submissions

Not interested in buying another safe!! Friends,       Well I am getting the ball rolling again and will need room for around 400 new coins. I decided to send a box full to Heritage for Orlando Fun but first ran an add in Money Market @ 50% off listed FMV. The sales may be loss of invested but will generate the cash needed for all the new picks I have saved for submission to NGC.               Happy Coin Collecting!! Time to "change" up a bit

"More Change" is the answer!!! Friends, I have been working on a few deals to acquire top grade dimes, nickles, and pennies. I got with a few dealers and found one for Lincoln cents but got the strangest e-mail today from him. He was offering me German Notgeld Notes (paper emergency money - 1920s). A far cry from Lincolns and I don't know what I would do with 8000 pristine German notes. However he did tell me he had 50 bags of Lincolns that he would bring up to me in November. So until then

This place needs to liven up a little!!

Where did all the new coin pics go? Friends, O-K so we went through some dramatic changes in the club. We still purchase coins no matter, so where are all the new additions? It's time for everybody to get back to collecting coins around here. The day started off good with work and my wife and grown kids were going to a movie ( The Shack ) and lunch. Well it all blew up somewhere when someone was worried about me and my will. That must have been one heck of a movie!! It tore the whole

Thinking of selling your SILVER or GOLD SCRAP soon.

Wait a couple more weeks. Friends and Society, I have looked into my Chrystal Ball lately. The one thing that came out strong was the rise in the value of SILVER and GOLD of course. It is not far off. Only two weeks so it won't hurt you to wait and hold onto your scrap precious metals if you were thinking of selling. You heard it from me. LATER----

The Road Trip is Out

The ASEs were all MS69 Friends, I finally got in touch with the sellers of that set of ASEs for sale I was going to drive 50 miles to purchase. The whole set was MS69 but I don't think they had the 2008W rev of 07s. The conversation went on a while and I invited them to check out our society and told them they could not get so much information for free anywhere else. So I didn't score any new coins but maybe a couple new members. HAPPY COIN COLLECTING

The Reverse of the 1986 $10 Gold Eagle

I couldn't resist showing the perfect reverse of this piece. Friends, As usual every obverse has the reverse pic showing up sooner or later. So here is a large pic of the reverse gold eagle for those of you that have not seen the artful piece yet. Later---Rick To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. The Raw Purchases are adding up

I still need 60 coins (30 easy and 30 tough) Hey Friends, I have started a new set of morgans now with 2 nice 10 coin purchases. Trying to buy the high grade easy coins first and then go for MS or lower on the finals. Good picks grabbed a 1894-O MS64 last night for 150. The good part of starting over with my Morgan set is that I decided to venture into all MS dollar sets and will very slowly be adding new sets to my registry. I will get the raw coins graded after I have acquired 100 or more

The Raw Purchases

Didn't think I would do it again. Friends, Yea I went out on a limb last night and purchased around 40 Morgan & Peace Dollars. I am in hopes they will grade at least MS62 but I will have a better opinion when I receive them. The graded coins are getting pretty high bids so I have decided to try one shot at some raw coins to keep me busy for a while with the grading companies. I do have a set waiting for me that is 108 Morgans but do not have the finances yet. Maybe another month and the

THE MORGAN DOLLAR KING

There is not one in my set and probably never will be. Friends & Community; Here it is almost July. By now most of us have adjusted to our economical situations. I would imagine I am not the only member holding on by a thread. I am praying that a job will come along soon to get me out of my IRS Hole but that being my only problem I see it as minor. I know others are in worse situations. Every week I find a Wonderful and expensive Morgan for sale and I think to myself "there goe

The KING is for sale

A coin I have wanted since my beginnings as a collector. Friends and Society; Well Sunday is my day of rest and a peaceful day to do all the research I need to make the greatest purchase this Saturday that I could imagine. I have been fishing in new areas for coins and received a e-mail this week for a few rare coins. The seller must have quite the collection to offer such rarities. The first coin on the list is 1909s VDB AU53 which had a generous price. I recently purchased a 1909 VDB

The GOLDEN Ike

golden memories rekindled Friends, As I had some extra time today to enjoy the coins in my sets I noticed many missing pics. Catching up on Lincolns, Jeffersons, Washingtons, Roosevelts, and Ikes pictures brought back some memories as to when I found them. I had to stop when I got to the Ike in the pic below as I never entered pics after I had it graded and forgot just how beautiful toned it was. Still some pics to add today if I feel up to it but here is todays special. My Golden 1976 I

The Final coin in my set

1891-Carson City-MS64 = 6 Months Ago Friends & Society, Previously I was going to sell some coins I knew I wanted to upgrade so I contacted Heritage and started a list. The values were around 12,000 and then I looked at bills that needed taken care of and things around here we need and the values went to 22,000. Not having a lot left in the set that was high grade I put the rest in the box yesterday, valued at 32,000 and went strait to the post office before I changed my mind. I woke

The end of 2015 as we know it

Getting ready for 2016 Friends, As for the usual every Jan. 1'st I do a order from Wizard Coin Supply to get more coin flips for submissions that are on the back burner. With each January poly-flip order I usually get a Intercept Shield coin album. This order today was 500 flips and a Franklin album. I probably have a dozen or so ungraded Franklins here and figured it would be a fun album to fill. Was looking for a Modern Commemorative album but they weren't available in Intercept Shield ye

The Dime Factory

A new name for my sets suggested by a friend in the chats. Hey Friends, As I have been on a roll lately in the Roosevelt dimes My buddy William tried to talk me into getting a web page started. He even went as far as grabbing the name to insure it was available. Well I told him I have never dealt outside the club and like the security of keeping it that way but really liked the name so I changed the set names on my pages. "Dime Factory" now has 50% complete and added many pics yesterday sin

The Auctions are doing great for the sellers

I am glad not to be buying right now Friends, As you know I sent most of my set to Heritage. The auctions did well except for 6 high dollar coins ( one of which I already sold and the other 5 PQ Dollars is looking to purchase). I don't need the 5 high value coins in my set since I have downgraded the set and they just don't fit anymore. I will probably try to trade for a bunch of lower grade coins to fill the new holes in the set. I was surprised on the amount of coins that sold for mor

The 5c Specimen Challenge

Lost one but got the other!!! Friends, I had made a few sales in the past few weeks. Usually I get checks which is good but last week all payments were in Pay-Pal. I don't take the money out of pay pal except for purchases on the bay. As I had a small nest I started to hunt for something to add to my sets. My Proof nickel set is starting to look good with the 1989-S to date complete PF70UC except 3 coins. I'm still needing the 1991-S and the 2 specimen coins. I set out to grab the specimens

Thanks to wmfielding

I spent half of the day catching up on photos. Friends, Well Mike did some catching up on his pics last week and I saw I needed 100 or more pics. I had some good sunshine today and figured it was a perfect day to catch up my page. Now every coin has a pic for the showing. Rick To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. Thanks CBC!!

WOWSERS CBC, As the Peace 34-S slab says MS63 I am totally in awe of the great looks of that obverse. The reverse must be a mess to average out at 63. Thanks for the pic and time will get you that SWEET 34-S for sure. I had to search for something to show off. Been ATS lately hanging out with a 16 year kid that loves dimes. I think the next year is going to render toward the silver dimes and clads for me. Enjoy building your sets all!!!

Sunny Saturday

Just the perfect amount of vitamin D Friends; I cut the grass last week which made a relaxing weekend this weekend. I grabbed my camera & took a few shots using the sunlight shining through my den window. The shots were so good I replaced all my coin pictures. Below is a shot of my new 1891CC.

SUBMISSION OVERDUE

Finally enough money for grading Collectors and Friends; It has been 3 months since I sent my last submissions in for grading.I had 40 coins to submit in March but no funds. This submission will be the final (probably not) raw coin submission for my Morgan Dollar sets. As much as my wife hates my collection I was surprised when I asked her to write a check and mail them in and she just asked if Monday would be O-K. My wife does not collect but she can sure spend a buttload on non-col
