PCGS 1971-S Silver Proof 70 Deep Cameo Eisenhower

Finally, the proud owner of said coin It has been a long time coming, and I am still on the verge of hyperventilation, but I own it now. Took a little wheelin and dealin', but I have it. Mind you, it's not too often I can ever find one at such an incredible price. I am just happy, and it's a Merry Christmas to me! (Please, no grinches to rain on my parade. It would be much appreciated) To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

NGC vs PCGS registry (Pt 2)

Really? (Yes, really) PCGS coins in the NCG registry are more in point value than their own graded coins? How does this happen? Listen, I didn't want to stir up so much emotion on this. First, let me address my statement, which is partly true. Not ALL the PCGS coins are graded higher. I am only registered with 2 sets, and that is in the 1971 proof set. Now NGC has been messin with the point value of the dime, and I wish they would stop (I lost 2960 points without touching it) but if you wil

Continental dollar on Ebay

Thought better, but could I have been wrong? Sold on Ebay yesterday for $380. I wondered about the pitting first off. Was this environmental damage? I did a little research on this coin and it being struck in pewter, and the others that I did see that did have environmental damage did not look like this. Also, I did ask if there was writing on the side...or the word copy, and the seller said no. But is there a different type of environmental damage that could have caused this? A few years bac

Any MS cents have a designated PL for them

Mirror like surfaces Just to kill some time and get back to coin collecting, I goet $2-$3 in pennies and sort through them for the copper (pre-1982), and some great condition pre and post 1982. Today's find was a 1963, my birth year, in BU and some 1997's. Hard to believe 1997 was 17 years ago. Anyhows, I had come across some 2013's with a mirror like finish. Are there any designations? It's horrible having OCD, especially with coins

I just need one more to tie... I have been VERY slowly concentrating on one proof set in the registry...the 1971. I have made a few purchases throughout the years, some of which got me a very verbal tongue lashing (but it was worth it!). More than 5 years ago, I did see the coin that my collection has been lacking, the 1971 PF 69 Ultra Cam Lincoln cent, and it was with Heritage auction, and bidding was @ $600. I knew from experience from my other purchases, that this one may make me a bachelor

NGC and error grading....

And I thought I had it... Here I am...pretty confident about my submission...I know I have a dead ringer with the 1951 D/S FS-511 which, BTW, graded out as MS-62 RB, and pretty sure of all the other ones. NGC had other opinions. They were quick to tell me that my 1914 Dime had UNC details, and was improperly cleaned, but didn't recognize the die break on the reverse (probably 1/16-1/8 inch long). My 1946 D/D/D wasn't that, but it had it's own special little baggie with a sticker on IT, that

Unexpected PLEASANT find!

A coin show and a .15 Lincoln cent Well, here I am getting ready to use my early bird coupon 5 months later, and I am in a toss up to go for high grade cents, or variety. I literally have a handful of coins that I am inspecting with my 60x and comparing the Lincoln cents against some already graded NGC MS64 and MS65. I remember someone telling me it's all in Lincoln's ear. Well, I see that some of these 1957-1963 are nice and shiny, but the ear is worn. Bummer. So out of the handful I was a

Back with NGC for another year!

Looking to trade for 1971 Proof 69 Ultra Cameo Lincoln cent! Greetings all y'all! No longer in SC, but now in beautiful Wyoming. Been here a little over 2 years now and love it. This month, my age will hit the half century mark, and I am still that one coin shy of completing my 1971 proof set that I still have! So, I'm back in the game of completion, and if you have that cent and would like to make my big 5-0 an extra special happy one, drop me a line and let's see if we can make a tr

RE: Any other married gentlemen out there?

When I talk about coins, there is a very errie hush.... ...that one would only hear right before a storm. There are some pleasant remarks of expression, and "forced" interest to what I am talking about, but it's still very, very quiet. I have come to learn that if she "closes her eyes, I will go away". If she shows an interest, maybe I will just let it lay there. She kindly reminds me that we have to watch our money. Sometimes I remember that conversation, most of the time I don't re

Registry question

...and I must enter a teaser....sheesh! I couldn't submit it unless I put something here! Is it allowed to list the same coin in two different registries? Let's say that I had a Lincoln proof that I wanted in my proof registry, but then I also have a Lincoln cent registry going on as well. Could I list the same coin in both?

Presidential errors

An error within itself...kinda Well, it's minimal, but in the NGC report of the Presidentail errors of the MONROE Dollar, they show a Washington Dollar (told you it was minimal!) But apart from that, Granted, that's cool and all, but there are some real other errors I asked NGC about, that they denied me on. One is the eye on Madison. Some are full circle, some arn't (that also goes along with the curl on the shoulder, missing one). The other is a die crack on the reverse that extend

RE: Look what I found Pt 1

Mr. Cooper..... If I can find a find like that, Can I borrow 3 of your 9 kids? I got 3 of my own, so I figure, I may come up with at least a 1909 VDB...Hopefully in better condition. I'll even let you choose the kids! :-)

I have SO been neglecting my coins!

...say it like a teenager... Not proud of it, but one hobby at a time. I got stuck on comics (Lady Death & Monster Madness) for the time being, and when I retire out of the Air Force, and buy my first house (I'll be 45 then) I'll be all over my coins again. My darling wife (remember the 1971 PF69Deep Cam half I bought?) said that she hopes we can get a house that will have enough room for me to put all my stuff (Military, coins, comics) in. I took it as a nice gesture at first, but now

And NOW to get back to coin collecting!!

Presidential $1 Error Coins: John Adams I just now read the main page of NGC, and that is what I find! I only have 2 rolls of Adams, but NOW it's like a RASH! I can't help myself to open them up and see if there are any errors! It's like the 2 Gen Washington rolls that I have. AAARRRGGG! (as Charlie Brown would say) I may just get another 2 rolls out of the credit union and see if I strike it rich......let the other two sets rolled as is for my boys.

My 1971 Proof set at #2....I just couldn't wait

I already paid for the coin (and told my wife) Well, I'm still here, so she didn't kill me. She knows that I know that I wanted this coin, and the chance to obtain it doesn't come often (lucky for me) I just got the bill in my E-mail, and it's officially paid for; but now it's time to get on the selling side of ebay.....dang it. Anybody collect Blair's hot sauces?? :-)

Every once in a while something goes right

.....kinda..... Well, as you probably know, I'v been concerned about my beloved 1971 set, and being tossed down to number 5. Thanks to HA, I was able to attain a half 69 DCAM for what "I" would consider a good price. My darling wife would disagree, seeing that it's only 50 cents, and if I paid $1.00 for it, I got ripped off. Let's not tell her just yet the price I won it for. AND WITH THAT SIAD, here's the teaser part where I said "kinda". Yes, I got my coin for a price I was willing t

Has anyone ever bought a $10 platinum 2005 graded MS70 accidently??

Apart from me, and then having to tell the wife?? I should be banned from Ebay...or at least be under supervision, and I'm not talking about superman's eyes! I was going through Ebay one night, and one search turned into something else. I can be searching for a good replacement for my registry 1971 proof set (which I really need now), and end up looking up General Grant's signatures. Don't ask me how I do that...that's why the supervision. One night I found myself looking at $10 pl

LEFT HOOK!!! UPPERCUT!! HE'S DOWN 2

I was happy with #3 in my beloved 1971 proof set, but now I fell down to 5 Ya see! That's what I get for devoting too much time (and $)on the comics! I was too close to getting a PF69Deep Cam Half, and then I could of held #2 for awhile. I see that the time has come to start sifting through my collection (s) and getting some funds raised should another opportunity arise to aquire a "coin of interest". It's all good. Congrats to those that made the grade! Jealous? Yes. I'll admit

Collectors journal for coins is great!

Collectors journal for comics need a defibrillator Now, granted, I don't get on here everyday and write something. Sometimes I just like to read what other people have experienced. I'll admit too, the first ones I read are the ones that have a picure....kinda reminds me of my single days lookin in the ....nevermind, different subject. Well, now I'm getting kind heavy into the comic side of the house. Wife is not pleased, but as long as I don't go overboard, she's alright with it. I reall

Egypt error coin

I really don't know why I buy some things.... I really try and convience myself to center in on one and only one...well, maybe two, and ONLY two types of coins ... well ... three is the the max...ah hell, whatever looks interesting! I am soon to be the proud owner of this coin from Ebay auction #290171943408 The coin is from egypt and dated 1970 commerating the 10,000 anniversity of the Cairo mosque university and the mohammedan calendar says 1359-1361 instead of 1389-91. RE:NUMISMEDIA vs. PCGS PRICE GUIDES Take 2

I see both of your points, but... If it's a guideline, then list some guide line prices. It should be regardless of how many NGC has graded vs what the coin is worth. I guess it should boil down to, get a monthly coin publication or check PCGS for free. Speaking of 1971's (my favorite coin collectible), there was a PCGS 1971-S PF 69 Deep Cameo on Ebay (another reason to check the pricelog) and got the wife permission to bid. Our beloved NGC lists it for $1250.00, PCGS NOW lists it for $

What's the deal with NumisMedia

It seems like 75% of the coins listed don't have pricing It kinda burned me when I read this: NumisMedia does not currently support Star(*) Grades. 'No Price' notation indicates that NumisMedia does not yet provide the value for this coin. Alright, I can understand not pricing the * grade, but the second sentance?? I mean, come on! Even PCGS has a better pricing guide than NGC, even if a nickel is worth a $1.00, it lists it as such. Even the errors, and different varities. WHat a

Merry Early Christmas!

...For me, that is....   (I wrote this in comics, but it also pertains to my coins. Please don't ask me why I'm getting into comics, cause the coins are too much now!)WELL! My big old 44th birthday has brought me some good things! My dear wife knows how much I like the casinos (and how the casinos love me is more like it) but she allowed me to go to the Hard Rock Casino here in Tampa FL on my birthday, which was the 24th of this month. I go there with all good intentions of spending $100.

The 2007 proof sets

They're in! I got my 3 (one for each kid) now the question is... What are the errors to be looking for? I thought I had a smooth edge Washington, but after getting it in the right light, I did see the letters. Has anyone heard of any errors yet?
