What makes a top set?

Is it pictures and descriptions or is it the grades of the coins in the set? Does my perfect set of Sac proofs..all Pr70UC..deserve to be listed as inferior to other sets containing the same grade coins just because I'm a lousy Photographer...or is the quality of the set to be determined by the editorial skill of the owner? Just a thought.

Well, that's it for me...I'm done

I thought that we had settled this buy/sell issue...but with 150+ views on two for sale entries (pure for sale ads)...I guess that this has turned into an advertising venue and if that was what I personally wanted I would join the boards...been nice knowing most of you...and good luck and good night

Various thoughts on different subjects

the end of an era? Sacagawea's are done in this incarnation and Lincolns are going where? Just ordered my 2008 Sac's and was wondering again, is this the last year for that set? As of next year, the reverse of the Sac will be the rotating Native American themes. That constitutes a new type or at the very least, at least some division in the Sac collections. I think? Also, next year is the commen Lincoln's. Are these going to be the end of a period? With all the talk of changing the cent,

U.S Post Office strikes again on all collectors

new regulation states that all coins and notes must be sent registered mail...minimum cost...$8.00 just down to my friendly post office, and the guy that knows my business let me know that a new directive had just came out that forthwith all coins and currency that could be spent..in other words was considered legal tender...now had to be sent by registered mail. that means that if you buy a $2.00 coin, the shipper would need to charge you about $10.00 for first class registered mail to send

To continue the discussion...on rankings

Just a thought for consideration...and one for Mr. T If your intent is to compile a record of your coins for either insurance or your heirs..as opposed to gain a ranking posistion..why not enter all your coins as a signature set..this would not put coins in the ranking system and allow for the set to contain what ever caught your fancy.....I think? not positive about the value part..as my only sig set is Cuban coins early to mid 1900's Mr T. A JOYOUS MEMORIAL DAY..AND WISHES FOR MANY MORE. AND LET US NOT FORGET OUR FALLEN COMRADES IS WHATEVER CONFLICT May this weekend find you in good health...or at least mobile, and our heartfelt best wishes to those not. To the families of our fallen and missing comrades, may your hearts be strong, and your paths as easy as possible. To my fellow Nam vets, may your dreams be silent, and your days filled with peace. Thoughts for a Lincoln Roll Checker

to search or not to search....that is a heck of a question... Here is a question, and a thought for all the roll searchers out there. Do you roll search to find that elusive double die Lincoln, from 72; 83; 84; or 95? Do you spend you free time, on Saturdays and Sundays looking through all the nice rolls of Lincolns trying to find those elusive Wide AM?s from the 96; 98; 99; or year 2000? Or are you just pulling out the copper ones for later meltdown and that big profit when copper goes to

The Trials and Disapointments

I really don't know why I try.... Have been calling the Mint since yesterday...and the only answer I get is "we are unable to take your call at this time"...and of course, the web site is down.."due to a change in manangement"...I have resigned myself to being unable to purchase the Bald Eagle commen's. The service we get from them, especially considering the prices and profits they make, is really indicative of the shoddy government attitude prevalent today. And I continue to buy into it, b

The 2010 Lincoln Shield Cent is already out

and NGC has already graded some The 2010 Shield Cent has been out for over two weeks now. It was released in Puerto Rico last month (Jan) from some banks there. And some of those released have already been graded by NGC, see their web site for the story and pictures. The man in PR is selling the rolls on ebay for upwards of 10.00. I personally am glad to see these brand new shield cents as it was about time for a change to the Memorial rev. Now if I can just convince CS to start a new seri

thanks Bryan....and $100,000.00 for coins !!!!!

What a set of Indian Head Cents that would make..... around $76,000.oo for a set of IHC in MS-65RD with a little left over for some varieties in lower grades....what a set...what a dream...what a hallucination..the chances of my ever having a complete set of Indians in Ms-60 is slim...but who knows..stranger things have been known to happen

Susan B's coming into their own

the public has discovered the SBA's as a great set to collect and the price of SBA's are going up almost across the board. And some of the higher grades are becoing hard to find. Witness the 81-s and 99-d in higher grade MS. Makes me happy, as I love this series. I don't have the pictures of my set posted yet...but I will dean silver dollar

Some Points....again

with just over 800 TPG coins currently With just over 800 coins in TPG's in my current inventory, 94% are NGC. why? because I think that of the TPGers, NGC is as accurate as they get and because of the disparity in prices, more people can afford the NGC coins. In my personal collections as you can see, I collect majority of NGC..again because I can afford a higher grade in them. with the coins as a rule being just as nice and accurately graded. face it...price IS a determining factor in a

Seller versus Buyer

Just where does the responsibility start and end? This is addressed to not only the collectors out there, but also to the dealers who are also part of this site family. I need to solicit some opinions here. This is the situation; I sold a Franklin Half, 1963 NGC MS-64 to an individual through Ebay. Now he claims that he has not received the item and has opened a complaint on Ebay. I have provided him with a copy of the Post Office receipt showing the posting to him. Obviously he has not p
