Heritage Offers Collection of Roman and Byzantine Coins Graded by NGC Ancients

A rare ancient coin certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company™ (NGC®) that shows a portrait of Jotapian, a usurper against the Roman Empire, is among almost 300 NGC-graded coins in an upcoming Heritage sale. Online bidding is already underway for The Werner Collection of Ancient Roman and Byzantine Showcase Auction, which concludes on February 20, 2022.

The Roman Empire Jotapian, c. AD 249 Silver Double Denarius graded NGC Ancients XF, 4/5 Strike and 2/5 Surface (lot 98134) shows a bust of Jotapian, a member of  the Near East indigenous aristocracy who revolted in northern Syria late in the reign of Emperor Philip because of an increase in taxation. Jotapian later was killed by his own soldiers.
