PMG-certified Notes and NGC-certified Coins Featured in September Sale

A fascinating selection of banknotes certified by Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®) and coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) from around the world are offered in A. Karamitsos’ upcoming auction. The currency sale is held in two parts (Part A and Part B) and will conclude on September 11-12, 2021.

Leading the sale is a rare Greece, Ionian Bank Limited 1884 10 New Drachmai graded PMG 15 Choice Fine (Part A, lot 6383). The front displays the flags of the United Kingdom and the United States of Ionian Islands, reflecting the period when, for nearly 50 years, the island nation was a protectorate of the British Empire. Bidding for this historical rarity starts at €23,000 (about $27,000 USD).

The sale also features a selection of vintage NGC-certified coins, including a rare Greece 1844 5 Lepta graded NGC MS 62 BN (Part A, lot 6057). This example was minted during the reign of King Otto, who ruled Greece from 1832 until he was deposed in 1862. The copper coin’s obverse bears a legend of Greek letters for Kingdom of Greece surrounding the royal coat of arms, with the denomination and wreath on the reverse. The starting price is €12,000 (about $14,000 USD).
