Seven Members of the NGC Team Named Among the Most Influential People in Numismatics

Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) is pleased to announce that seven of its experts have been included in Coin World’s The Most Influential People in Numismatics: 1960-2020. Mark Salzberg, NGC Chairman and Grading Finalizer, and Miles Standish, NGC Vice President, were named among the Top 10 Most Influential People of the nearly 100 people profiled.
Coin World embarked upon highlighting the hobby’s most influential people as part of its 60-year anniversary. Expert and impartial certification has revolutionized coin collecting by making it easier and safer to buy and sell coins. Therefore, it’s no surprise to see so many NGC representatives featured alongside dealers, collectors, researchers and auction house executives who have had essential roles in promoting the hobby.
Other expert innovators at NGC that were honored include Certified Collectibles Group® (CCG®) CEO Steven Eichenbaum, NGC President Rick Montgomery, Numismatic Conservation Services™ (NCS®) President and NGC Finalizer David J. Camire, NGC Research Director David W. Lange and NGC Ancients Director David Vagi.
Mark Salzberg, CCG Chairman and NGC Grading Finalizer
Mark Salzberg, CCG Chairman and NGC Grading Finalizer, is one of the world’s most respected and accomplished numismatists. He is widely credited for his central role in standardizing and promoting the use of today's highly precise coin grading scale. As a key supporter of the hobby for decades, he was recognized by the American Numismatic Association as Numismatist of the Year in 2006.
Steven R. Eichenbaum, CCG Chief Executive Officer
Steven R. Eichenbaum has worked to expand the collectibles markets by playing an integral role in virtually all major initiatives of CCG over the last two decades. Under his leadership, CCG has built on NGC’s success by adding other affiliates, including companies for paper money certification (PMG®), comic book certification (CGC®), sports card certification (CSG™), stamp certification (ASG®) and provenance preservation (CAG®).
Rick Montgomery, NGC President and Finalizer
Considered by many to be the coin industry’s greatest authenticator, Rick Montgomery has been a professional grader since 1980 and President of NGC since 2002. During his illustrious career, Montgomery has graded many of the world’s greatest rarities. He co-authored the NGC Grading Guide for Modern US Coins and has written numerous articles for the American Numismatic Association.
David J. Camire, NCS President and NGC Finalizer
David J. Camire is an authority on mint errors and modern minting technology and production. In addition to his expertise in coin manufacturing, Camire also specializes in modern Chinese coins. He co-authored 100 Greatest U.S. Error Coins,has contributed to leading numismatic publications and volunteers at the Smithsonian Institution to help preserve the National Numismatic Collection.
Miles Standish, NGC Vice President
Michael “Miles” Standish is a prominent numismatist, author, coin grader and industry innovator who has served the hobby for more than 35 years. As an NGC Vice President since 2015, he has spearheaded numerous modern coin certification programs for collectors and dealers. These programs have been instrumental in expanding the appeal of modern coin collecting.
David W. Lange, NGC Research Director
The author of ten books on United States numismatics, Lange was honored by the American Numismatic Association with its Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009 and as the Numismatist of the Year in 2017. The Numismatic Literary Guild honored Lange in 2018 with its prestigious Clemy Award. Career highlights include the launching of NGC’s VarietyPlus service.
David Vagi, NGC Ancients Director
David Vagi has studied ancient Greek and Roman coins since 1985. His Coinage and History of the Roman Empire received ‘Book of the Year’ awards from the Professional Numismatists Guild, Numismatic Literary Guild and International Association of Professional Numismatists. Vagi has written for various numismatic publications and shares his expertise in a monthly column for the NGC eNews.
