NGC-certified Vintage Coins from Russia and Poland Highlight Polish Auction

Posted on 3/15/2021

Hundreds of rare NGC-graded coins are included in a March sale presented by Antykwariat Numizmatyczny.

A stunning Russian gold coin and a Polish gold pattern, along with other vintage world rarities certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®), are offered in an upcoming Antykwariat Numizmatyczny auction. Biding is currently underway for all three sessions, which are being held March 20-22, 2021.

A Russia 1889 10 Roubles graded NGC AU 55 (lot 956) dates from the reign of Emperor Alexander III, who ruled from 1881 to 1894. The emperor avoided Russian involvement in major wars, thus he was given the name “the peace maker.” The obverse features the emperor’s portrait, while the reverse shows the imperial double-headed eagle. The starting bid is 20,000 PLN (about $5,200 USD).

Another coin with a starting bid of 20,000 PLN is a Poland 1924 Essai Silver 2 Zlote graded NGC MS 66 and pedigreed to the Karolkiewicz Collection (lot 2515). After World War I, the newly independent Poland created a unified currency: the zloty. This is a rare essai (or pattern) for the coinage that began circulated in 1924. Its rarity and high grade make this particular coin a treasure from the Second Polish Republic.
