NGC-certified 1831 Great Britain Coin Realizes $425,000 at CNG NYINC Auction

A gold 19^th Century coin from Great Britain certified by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) realized $425,000, more than double its pre-sale estimate, at an auction presented January 14-15 by Classical Numismatic Group (CNG).

The stunning Great Britain 1831 Gold Crown graded NGC PF 62+ Ultra Cameo had a pre-sale estimate of $200,000. It shows William IV on the obverse and a coat of arms under a crown and mantle on the reverse.

Other particularly significant NGC-certified coins sold at the CNG auction held as part of the New York International Numismatic Convention (NYINC) include:

• A Roman Empire (Hadrian) AD 117-138 Gold Aureus graded NGC Ancients MS, Strike 5/5 and Surface 4/5, with Fine Style that realized 77,500.
• A Great Britain 1826 5 Sovereign graded NGC PF 62 Cameo that realized $65,000.
• A 14-coin Great Britain 1830-1837 Coronation Issue Proof Set that realized $60,000. Among the set’s NGC-certified coins are a sixpence graded NGC PF 65, a half sovereign graded NGC PF 64 Ultra Cameo, a shilling graded PF 64 Cameo and a halfpenny and Maundy penny graded NGC PF 64 BN.
• A Lydia (Croesus) 561-546 BC Gold Stater graded NGC Ancients Ch MS, Strike 5/5 and Surface 5/5 that realized $42,500.
• Another Lydia (Croesus) 561-546 BC Gold Stater graded NGC Ancients Ch MS★, Strike 5/5 and Surface 5/5 that also realized $42,500.
• An England 1681 Gold 5 Guineas graded NGC AU 55 that realized $37,500.
• A Great Britain 1875 Silver Pattern Half Crown graded NGC PF 64 that realized $30,000.
