NGC-certified Russian Rarities Offered by SINCONA
Posted on 10/2/2019
Numismatic Guaranty Corporation® (NGC®) certified several extremely rare vintage Russian coins in the upcoming SINCONA sale of Russian Coins and Medals, which will be held October 21, 2019, in Zurich, as part of a four-day auction event. SINCONA (Swiss International Coin Auction AG) is a prominent Swiss numismatic auction house that has submitted many rare coins to NGC for authentication, grading and encapsulation over the years.
The coin with the highest estimate is Lot 1, a Russia 1701 2 Ducats graded NGC AU Details. With a starting bid of 200,000 CHF (about $201,000 USD), this turn of the 18th century coin is an extreme rarity and interesting numismatic artifact. It is one of the first Russian chervonets—Russia's original foreign-trade gold coin—and it features a bust of Peter the Great, the first emperor of Russia.
Another highlight is Lot 573, a Russia 1902 37.5 Roubles (100 Francs) graded NGC MS 61. This is a very rare coin, as only 225 pieces were minted, and it features a bust of Nicholas II, the last emperor of Russia. The starting bid is 150,000 CHF (about $151,000 USD).
