Modern Chinese Varieties: 1990 Proof Silver 10Y Panda

Posted on 6/13/2017

This is the 29th installment of our monthly column devoted to modern Chinese varieties.

Chinese Silver and Gold Panda coins are not only very popular but contain many collectible varieties. The Proof 1990 Silver Panda is one such coin that can be found with a small and large P mintmark located on the reverse of the coin.

The coin pictured below is an example of the small P variety. The “P” signifying the coin is PROOF is enclosed in a circle. A close up appears on the right (Photos 1 & 2).

Both examples share a common obverse featuring the date, 1990, and the Temple of Heaven (Photo 5).
