Modern Chinese Varieties: 2004 Gold 50Y Monkey

This is the 21st installment of our monthly column devoted to modern Chinese varieties.

This month we will feature the 2004 Gold 50Y Monkey coins. They can be found with either a thin or thick 50Y on the reverse of the coin.

This is an example of the thin G50Y variety with a close-up on the right side (Photos 1 & 2).

This is an example of the thick G50Y variety with a close-up on the right side (Photos 3 & 4).

Both of these coins share a common obverse featuring another version of the Monkey and the date (Photo 5).
