Most often NCS is called upon to remove the lingering evidence of coins being stored in less than ideal holders for an extended period. Sometimes we are called upon to remove lingering evidence of the improper storage itself.

This Hawaii 1883 Half Dollar had been stored along with several other similar coins glued to a holder. The glue appears as the thick yellow in a random pattern across the obverse. Glue residue can damage the surface of a coin and can be distractingly unattractive. A coin with glue residue will not be certified by NGC. The NCS conservators were able to safely remove the glue residue while leaving the remainder of the coin with a natural look. The coin was able to grade numerically with NGC following the conservation.
