New ANA Virtual Museum Exhibit Features Spectacular NGC-Certified Commemoratives

The American Numismatic Association (ANA) has launched a new online exhibit in the ANA Virtual Money Museum. The ANA collection consists of approximately 225,000 numismatic objects from the earliest invention of money to the modern day. Since only a small selection of these items can be displayed at any given time at the ANA Money Museum in Colorado Springs, online exhibits in the Virtual Money Museum allow other portions and temporary exhibits to be more widely shared.

Illustrated with the finest known NGC-graded coins, this newest exhibit describes the early US commemorative coins. From 1892 through 1954, Congress authorized the US Mint to strike 157 silver and gold commemoratives to recognize 53 different events, occasions and individuals. The result was a beautiful series that artfully celebrated American history.

These coins ranged in denomination from 25 cents (issued in 1893 for the World's Columbian Exposition) to $50 (struck in 1915 for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition). However, the silver half dollar was by far the most common denomination used. The collection shown online consists of extraordinary, quality examples of the silver issues, many of which are graced with a vibrant, multi-color patina.
