Modern Coin of the Month: The United States Mint Releases the 2010 American Buffalo Gold Proof Coins

The collector version of the 2010 American Buffalo Gold Proof Coin is now available from the US Mint.

The United States Mint released the 2010 American Buffalo Gold Proof Coins for sale on June 3, 2010. The American Buffalo One Ounce Gold Proof Coin is the collector version of the official United States Mint American Buffalo Gold Bullion Coin. The obverse and reverse designs are based on the original 1913 Type I Buffalo nickel by James Earle Fraser.

Each coin contains one ounce of .9999 fine, 24-karat gold and is presented in an elegant hardwood box with a Certificate of Authenticity signed by the Director of the United States Mint.

Newly issued bullion coins and their Proof counterparts are eligible for the NGC Early Releases designation within their first 30 days of release. The Early Releases cutoff date for the proof 2010-W $50 Gold Buffalo is Tuesday, July 6, 2010. To receive the Early Releases designation and label, coins should be submitting using the Modern Special tier.
