This 1924 Quarter Dollar was recently submitted to NCS exhibiting some telltale signs of many years of improper storage. The black specks and orange residue diminished this coin’s eye appeal.

The NCS conservation team was able to deftly remove both the orange residue and the black spotting from the surface of this coin. Interestingly, the remaining spot on the left side of the obverse is what is known as a struck through. A foreign material is imbedded in the planchet before the coin was struck leading to a mark appearing to the right of Liberty. This coin was able to grade numerically with NGC following the conservation.
