Historic 1792 Half Disme Certified by NGC Showcased in Stack's Bowers Galleries Auction
Posted on 1/24/2025
A high-grade rarity from the dawn of United States coinage is among more than 100 rare coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) in an upcoming auction. Online bidding is already underway for Stack's Bowers Galleries' February 2025 Showcase Auction: Session 1: Federal Issue US Coins, which will be held on February 4, 2025.
A top NGC-certified lot in the sale is the 1792 Half Disme graded NGC MS 62 (lot 1041). About 1,500 Half Disme coins are believed to have been struck in 1792 following the Treasury Department's implementation of the Mint Act in April of that year. These rare coins quickly became one of the most coveted federally issued coins in all of American numismatics. The NGC Census lists only eight coins in finer condition out of a mere 39 numerically graded.
Other NGC-certified coins in this auction include:
- a 1795 Flowing Hair Silver Dollar graded NGC MS 64 (lot 1107)
- a 1795 Draped Centered Silver Dollar graded NGC MS 65 (lot 1108)
