NGC-certified Spanish Rarity Realizes More Than $250,000 in Soler y Llach Auction

Dozens of vintage coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) were recently offered in a Soler y Llach auction, with the top NGC-certified rarity realizing over a quarter-million dollars. Soler y Llach's Auction #1136 was held on November 6-8, 2024.
The top lot in the auction was a Spain 1708 Y Segovia 8 Escudos graded NGC MS 65 (lot 159) that realized €258,640 (about $271,900). This rare coin was minted during the first decade of King Philip V's reign, which lasted more than 45 years and is the longest reign in Spanish monarchy history. There are only two of this type in the NGC Census and this is the finer of the pair. Furthermore, the NGC Census lists more than 900 8 Escudos coins from the time period of 1601 to 1858, and only five are graded higher than this one.
Other NGC-certified highlights in the auction included:
- a Spain 1616 A Segovia 50 Reales graded NGC XF 40 (lot 126) that realized €37,820 (about $40,000)
- a Spain 1888(88) MSM 5 Pesetas graded NGC MS 61 (lot 615) that realized €12,200 (about $13,000)
- an Albania 1927V Prince Skanderbeg 20 Franga Ari graded NGC MS 65 (lot 726) that realized €2,440 (about $2,600)
- a Great Britain 1902 2 Sovereign graded NGC PF 60 Matte (lot 827) that realized €2,013 (about $2,100)
- a Spain 1870(75) DEM 2 Pesetas graded NGC MS 63 (lot 502) that realized €1,952 (about $2,000)
