Several NGC-certified Chinese Rarities Expected to Realize Six Figures in Heritage Sale

Posted on 11/22/2024

The December auction features dozens of impressive NGC-certified coins.

An exciting variety of vintage and modern Chinese rarities are among more than 350 world and ancient coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) that are being offered in an upcoming sale. Online bidding is already underway for Heritage Auctions' HKINF World & Ancient Coins Platinum Session and Signature Auction - Hong Kong #3120, which will take place December 8-10, 2024.

The top NGC-certified highlight in the auction is a China 1916 10 Dollars graded NGC AU 58 and pedigreed to the Winter/Chin Family Collection (lot 30134), with an estimate of $100,000 to $200,000. This Chinese rarity features the bust of Yuan Shih-kai, who was president of China from 1912 until his death in mid-1916, with the exception of a three-month period starting in December 1915 when he proclaimed himself emperor. This gold pattern from renowned Chinese coin engraver L. Giorgi dates from these imperial aspirations, which Yuan Shih-Kai was quickly forced to give up amid stiff resistance.
