NGC-certified Soviet China Coin Offered in Stack's Bowers Galleries Sale
Posted on 10/1/2024
A rare coin from the Chinese Soviet Republic is among the highlights of an impressive selection of Chinese coins certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) featured in an upcoming Stack’s Bowers Galleries auction series. Bidding is already underway for Session 1 and Session 2, which will held on October 14-15, 2024.
A top highlight of the auction is a Soviet China 1935 Shensi Silver Dollar graded NGC VF 30 (lot 40207), with an estimate of $500,000 to $600,000. The Chinese Soviet Republic existed from 1931 to 1937 as the Red Army, led by Mao Zedong, fought a civil war with the national government. Unlike most Soviet-era issues that used Western dates, this piece is dated to the fifth year of the Chinese Soviet Republic, when Chinese Community Party forces were completing a strategic retreat. By this time, logistical challenges had severely curtailed their ability to strike coins: The NGC Census contains 117 Soviet Chinese Silver Dollars.
Other NGC-certified coins from Session 1 of this auction include:
