Polish Rarities Being Offered in Upcoming Niemczyk Auction

Nearly 200 NGC-certified rarities from Eastern Europe and beyond are available in a late September sale.

A modern coin that pays tribute to one of Poland’s greatest mathematicians and astronomers is among nearly 200 rarities certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company® (NGC®) in an upcoming sale. Online bidding is already underway for Niemczyk Auction 45, which has an emphasis on Eastern European rarities and is being held on September 21, 2024.

Among the top lots in the sale is a Poland 1973MW Proba Gold 100 Zlotych - Nicholas Copernicus graded NGC PF 68 Ultra Cameo (lot 616) with a starting price of 100,000 PLN (about $26,000). This extremely rare coin is a commemorative tribute issued for the 500th anniversary of Copernicus, whose portrait is on the obverse. He is responsible for the Copernican Revolution and contributed to the beginnings of the Scientific Revolution. This pattern coin is the sole gold example in the NGC Census.

  • a Poland 1980MW Proba Gold 2,000 Zlotych - Boleslaw I Chrobry graded NGC PF 66 Ultra Cameo (lot 605) with a starting price of 40,000 PLN (about $10,300)
  • a France 1858BB Gold 100 Francs graded NGC MS 63 (lot 455) with a starting price of 25,000 PLN (about $6,400)
  • a China 1995 Gold 50 Yuan Panda - Small Date graded NGC MS 69 (lot 452) with a starting price of 24,000 PLN (about $6,200)
  • a Poland 1820 IB 10 Zlotych graded NGC UNC Details (lot 255) with a starting price of 20,000 PLN (about $5,100)
  • a Russia 1853CNB AT 5 Roubles graded NGC MS 62 PL (lot 318) with a starting price of 20,000 PLN (about $5,100)
