NGC Registry Featured Set: China Gold Fan Coins

As mentioned in a recent NGC article here, a large number of highly collectible NGC-certified coins were up for auction this April in a sale presented by Spink. Among those treasures were lunar coins. The China – Lunar Series category in the NGC Registry is popular, boasting over 1,300 participating sets! This Gold Fan Series I set is the second most popular Gold Lunar set type in the NGC Registry, and newlinter currently sits in first place. He boasts 100% set completion, and almost all of newlinter’s coins are Top Pop perfect NGC MS 70s! He began assembling his set in 2020 and has managed to win Best in Category for three consecutive years!

His gallery here is a showcase of stunning Gold Lunar fan-shaped coins ranging from the year 2000 through 2011. The year 2024 happens to be the Lunar Year of the Dragon. Check out newlinter’s 2000 Gold 50 Yuan dragon coin, above. The 2001 Gold 200 Yuan Snake, below, a Top Pop graded NGC MS 70, is one of a scant 13 out of 269 coins that have been awarded the desirable perfect 70.
