Description and Analysis
Franklin Half Dollars
1959 50C PF
Description & Analysis
The decline in proof set sales during 1958 only whetted the appetite of speculators in 1959, and sales again surpassed the million mark. Interest in the new Lincoln Memorial Cent accounted for many of the multi-set sales, but most of it was just the frenzied trading that had driven proof set sales to more than 20 times those of 1950.
While the 1959 proof half dollar is an extremely common coin all the way up through PF-68, the number of certified Ultra Cameo examples is quite low, making this one of the key issues for series specialists.
Varieties are surprisingly few for this date, and all are fairly minor.
