Patterns and Trial
1852 J-147 G$1 PF
Description & Analysis
Judd-147, Pollock-175, Low R.7.
An annular pattern with a large central perforation, which would have allowed a larger diameter gold dollar. The annular format limits the devices to a wreath and scrollwork. Gold dollars were vital to commerce in 1852, since silver coins were worth more than face value and did not circulate. Struck in copper with a plain edge.
