2012 W INFANTRY S$1 PF

Description & Analysis

The U.S. Armed Forces had their start when the Second Continental Congress authorized the creation of ten companies of light infantry on June 14th, 1775. Since then, the Infantry has consistently endured the brunt of the sacrifices in our nation's wars. In fact, around 75% of our nation's war causalities have been Infantry.

In honor of the sacrifices of our brave men and women in uniform, Congress authorized the issue of up to 350,000 silver dollars. The coin was issued to also raise awareness about the National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center, which opened in June of 2009. Additionally, surcharges of $10 per coin raised over $2 million for the National Infantry Foundation.
